1943
I was next up to bat. I heard everyone screaming my name. The pitch was thrown. I swung got a homerun. My team won. Me and my friends walked back to the farm. Then a strange man with a hat came up to us.
"Ellen-Sue Gotlander?" the strange man said.
"That'd be me," I said.
"Well, since the boys are going off to war, Walter Harvey, the candy man, is starting a pro baseball league for women, are you interested?" the man asked.
"I'm not sure," I said.
"Ernie Capadino's the name. I'm a scout, in fact, a good scout, you I saw, you I like," the man said.
"Do it, do it," my friends said.
"Okay," I said.
"Train leaves tomorrow see you there," the scout said.
You might have guessed my name is Ellen-Sue. I have a country accent. Yes, I'm from Georgia. I won the Ms. Georgia beauty pageant. But, I've always been fond of baseball. I'm always getting guys coming to me. I have bleach blonde hair, blue eyes, skinny.
So, I went inside to tell my family, I had to pack, they were proud of me.

Me, and Jade, make such a cute couple. People think I'm crazy. They think I can have any man I want that throws themselves at me, but, I just want one man. And that man is Jade Puget. This war is going on, and it frightens me that Jade will be drafted into the army. Me and Jade are walking to my baseball game. It's a small club thing where girls play baseball, a small team.
So I played the game, I play second base. When we walked home, a small fat man came up to me. He told me to join a women's professional. I accepted. But the big thing was Jade couldn't come! But he kept encouraging me.

So Ernie, the scout said there will be more girls. I went onto the train, and waited for the adventure of a life time.
