In The End (An AFI Story), chapter 5
Davey jumped and said, "Ja-what the hell?!?" We looked at Davey. Davey looked at us. My arms were around Jade's back, and his arms were cupped on my face. We were both very red in the face. Obviously, it looked like we were making out.
"Davey, it's not what it looks like," Jade said. His hands fell from my face and I released my arms from his back. Davey looked really hurt. I kind of felt bad. Davey left the room and Jade and I looked at each other. Damn it, I knew this would happen!
Jade got up and left the room."Wait here," he told me. I sat there thinking. I was so close to kissing Jade, even thought I know it's not right. I should never do something like that again. It's not good for the band, and I sure as hell am not going to screw up our chances of making it big. I laid on Jade's bed and waited. Soon Jade and Davey came back in. I sat up quickly. I realized that we haven't even been downstairs yet.
"Is everything okay?" I asked nervously.
"Yeah," Davey said looking at the floor.
"C'mon, let's go out," I said. I grabbed both Jade and Davey's hands and ventured downstairs. I looked at Jade's living room and kitchen. It was all a mess. Jade winced at the sight of his previously perfectly cleaned house.
"Actually, maybe we should call the police," I said. I grabbed a phone and dialed 911.
We arrived at the police department. Basically, I called the police and they came over to investigate. Also, we had to go to the police station to get interviewed. We sat in a waiting room for a while. Then the cop guy said, "Sf-... Sfuh-... Sfeht-"
"It's Sfetalina. Just call me Sfetie," I said as I rolled my eyes.
"Come here, Sweaty," The cop said. Jade and Davey laughed. I followed the policeman into a room.
He closed the door.
"I'm Detective Meola and I have to ask you a few questions," The policeman said.
"Okie dokie then, Officer Meola!" I said and smiled warmly.
"This isn't a joke, Sweaty. Now, where were you at the time of the robbery?"
"I was at my mate Jade's house. He's out there now." I pointed to the waiting room.
"Okay. What exactly do you remember?" He asked.
"Well, the whole story or just where the robbery starts?"
"Just the robbery. We don't need unnessesary information."
"Well, okay then. I was at Jade's house right? Well I brought Andy up to his room and-"
"Is Andy your little brother?" Officer Meola looked scared, as if something happened to "my little brother Andy."
"Oh, no, Andy's my bass!" I said. "Anyway, we sat down on his bed when the doorbell rang again. So, thinking it's Davey-"
"And who's Davey?"
"Oh, he's our drummer. He's the one with a lip ring. So anyway, we're thinking it's Davey here for an unscheduled practice, like he's always doing, and Jade opens the door. And it's sure as hell is not Davey at the door."
"Can you describe what the person at the door looked like?"
"Actually, it was two guys, they were wearing ski masks and all black. As in black pants, black shirt, you know the deal. So we're all like, 'Uh, you're not Davey! ' and they whacked us over the head with a baseball bat. Hence the bruise." I pointed to my large bruise on my forehead. It hurt like a bitch.
"Okay... " Officer Meola said.
"So, we wake up in Jade's bed, and we see four aspirins and water next to our bed."
"I hope you didn't take it. It could be poison."
"Uhhhh...." I said.
"You took it didn't you, Sweaty?" he asked. I gulped and nodded.
"Well, we're going to have to test you and your boyfriend- what's his name? Jane? John?"
"Uh, well, he's not my boyfriend and his name is Jade," I said. My face went red.
"Oh, well. Anything else I need to know?" Meola asked.
"Nope. That's the story!" I said.
"You may leave. And tell your boyfriend- uh...Jude? Tell him to come in here." Officer Meola asked.
I left the room and walked back to the waiting room. I whispered to Jade,
"Officer Meola wants you, Jude." I giggled. Jade looked confused but entered the room.
Hours later we returned back to Davey's after a quick stop to Jade's for overnight stuff and Andy and mine for the same reason. Jade had to stay at Davey's cause of his house and his parents went to Jade's grandfather. I flopped down on Davey's bed. It was 10:30 at night. We had nothing to talk about to so it was quiet.
"Sfetie, can I braid your hair?" Davey blurted out. Jade and I started laughing.
"Uh, why?"
"'Cause. It looks pretty." Davey grinned.
"LyK OmG! LeTs AlL gEt mAkOvErS!" I said. Jade rolled on the floor from laughter.
"No, seriously, c'mere." Davey sat on the bed and turned me to my back was facing him. Jade was sitting on the floor.
"Mmm... " Davey said. "Your hair is really soft. Jade, come here, feel this." Jade gave Davey a weird look and got up. He sat down next to Davey and they both petted my hair. I turned my head slightly to see their reactions. Jade's eyes widened. I never thought my hair was so special.
"Shit, man, this is awesome!" Jade ran his fingers through my hair. Just Jade doing that made me shudder.
"You okay?" Jade asked. He looked puzzled.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," I said. It got all quiet in the room.
"Okay, Jade, enough, I'm the one braiding her hair," Davey said.
He shoved Jade off the bed and since Jade was on the outside, Jade fell on the floor with a loud thump. I doubled over in laughter. Then Davey started braiding my hair. How weird is it for a guy to braid your hair at a sleepover? Apparently, it's normal for Davey Havok. He finished with my hair and I looked in the mirror.
"Not bad," I said, examining myself. "This is actually really good, Davey! Where'd you learn to do this?" I turned to him.
"He learned it the Women's Club Summer Camp!" Jade snickered.
"Uh, Jade, that was a horrible joke!" I said, laughing. Then I calmed down. "No, really, Davey. Tell me where you got these mad skills!" Davey blushed.
"Jade's right. When I was in 3rd grade, my mom sent me to a camp. The camp was for girls and guys, but it was run by the Women's Club." Jade rolled on the floor.
"Well, that's okay!" I said defensively. "It's still really good braiding." I looked at the clock. "Ahh...1:30..." I said, yawning.
"I'm gonna hit the sack, guys," Jade said.
"Me, too. Davey?" I said.
"Yeah, I'm tired."
Davey turned off the lights and I crawled onto the floor next to Jade. Davey slept in his bed 'cause he's got back problems. I heard Jade tossing and turning next to me long after Davey fell asleep. Finally, at 3:00 in the morning, I said aloud, "Jade, I know you're awake."
"Yeah, I know you are too." Jade sat up and grinned.
"Well, I'm thirsty, will you come downstairs to get some water with me? Please?" I asked.
"Yeah, sure," Jade said. He got up and held his hand out. I grabbed it and he pulled me up. I stood very very close to his face. We just stared at each other. I was leaning closer...
"Uh, come on, let's go get that water." Jade let go of my hand and turned around. I followed him down the stairs. Then, I slipped and tumbled loudly down the stairs. Finally, I lay in a heap at the bottom.
"Shit! Sfetie are you okay?" Jade rushed down the stairs and kneeled down next to me.
"Oww... " I groaned. I slowly got up and Jade helped me.
"Do you hurt anywhere?" He asked.
"No, I'm fine. Probably just a couple bruises," I said.
We walked to the kitchen where I opened Davey's cabinets. I grabbed a glass and poured sink water into it. Jade stood near the table. I finished my water, put the glass in the sink, and walked toward Jade. 'This is it, ' I thought, 'I have to tell him now. ' I knew that if Jade didn't like me the way I liked him, then that might put Property of East Bay in danger. But seeing as how he acted around me, whether it was when he acted pissed off when I hugged Davey, or how he helped me just now when I fell down the stairs, I was pretty sure there was something going. I stood in front of Jade.
"Jade... I, uh... I need to tell you something." Jade looked confused. Oh shit. I really blew it now.
"Yeah, what is it?" Jade asked.
"Jade, I... I like you a lot. A whole lot. As in way more than friends," I said.
I was blushing like mad. For a while Jade didn't say anything.
"I knew it. I knew you don't like me like that," I said. I looked toward the ground.
"No," Jade said. He lifted my chin up towards him. "This is how I feel about you." And then Jade moved his head forward and kissed me. I was surprised at first. I definitely was not expecting that. But I kissed him back. We passionately made out for a long time. Then I broke apart.
"What's wrong?" Jade said. He looked sad, as if I didn't like his kissing. As if!
"Jade, it's just...the band. Davey won't like this at all. Remember how he reacted before? And if we get together, and we split up, then it's over. Property of East Bay is over." I wrapped my arms over his shoulders while his hands rested on my waist.
"Sfetie... I really like you. I don't wanna be 'just friends'," Jade said. He looked really hurt.
"I know, Jade, I know. But if we wanna be together, we'll have to not tell anyone. Okay?" I said.
"Okay." Jade smiled.
I leaned forward and kissed him again. After a couple of minutes, I broke apart.
"Jade, we should get upstairs. It's 3:30." Jade pouted.
"Oh, fine." Then he picked me up, bridal style, and carried me up the steps into Davey's room. I was giggling the entire way. Then, we reached his doorway and kissed for the last time that night. Then Jade put me down.
"Goodnight, Sfetie," Jade said. He climbed into his sleeping bag.
"Goodnight, Jade." I smiled. I slept soundly for the rest of the morning.
"Davey, it's not what it looks like," Jade said. His hands fell from my face and I released my arms from his back. Davey looked really hurt. I kind of felt bad. Davey left the room and Jade and I looked at each other. Damn it, I knew this would happen!
