In The End (An AFI Story), chapter 6
The next morning I woke up. Davey and Jade were gone. So I brushed my teeth, fixed my hair and went downstairs. Jade was flipping pancakes and Davey was sitting at the table, looking impatient.
"Hey, guys!" I said. Jade turned around.
"Oh, hey, Sfetie! Want some pancakes?" Jade smiled at me.
"Sure! Hey Davey, what's up?" Davey looked at me.
"I'm so tired! I didn't get any sleep last night!" Davey said.
My blood turned cold. What if Davey saw Jade and I kissing in the doorway last night? I shook my head mentally. No, he would have confronted us, I told myself. But I still couldn't shake that feeling.
"Okay, Dave, your cakes are ready!" Jade held the pan over Davey's plate and dumped the contents in it. A heap of delicious looking pancakes lay on Davey's plate. Davey dug in.
"Mmm, Fay, deeder uhd!" Davey said, with his mouth full of pancake. Jade and I laughed. Davey smiled and swallowed. "I said, mm, Jade, these are good!" Davey grinned.
A couple hours later, Jade and I had to leave Davey's. Jade's house was still being cleaned up, so he was staying at my house tonight. After Davey ate all those pancakes, he said he wasn't feeling well, so he didn't come with us. I was kind of glad. That meant more alone time with Jade. We stopped at Jade's house to pick up some more stuff.
"It's looking a lot better!" I said cheerfully when I noticed Jade's sad expression. He didn't answer me. We climbed the steps to his room and I sat down on the bed. I looked around the room once more, taking in everything. The room was a mess still. Jade sighed and got to work.
After Jade finished packing some new stuff, we walked over to my house. I knew my mother didn't want us here, but the only reason she let Jade stay was because his house was destroyed. She didn't like both the guys here, and now that Davey's probably sick, she won't like me and a guy alone together. Oh well. Jade and I entered my room and Jade threw his stuff down.
"Jade, I'll be right back, I have to go to the bathroom." I got up and left.
A couple minutes later, I walked back into my room to see JADE READING MY SONG NOTEBOOK! I couldn't believe it!
"JADE! What are you doing?!?" I yelled. Jade jumped up like a rocket. He dropped the song book and his eyes were so wide, I thought they were gonna fall out.
"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? THAT IS MY PRIVATE NOTEBOOK! I can't believe you, Jade! I thought you were better than that!" I was so humiliated. Some songs in there are about Jade himself! He can't read them! Then, I saw the look on his face. Sorrow, hurt, sadness. I felt bad for jumping down his throat like that. I softened up a little.
"Jade, I'm sorry, it's just that that kinda stuff is for my eyes only." I sat down next to him and rested my head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me ran his fingers through my hair. We just sat there until Jade finally talked.
"I'm sorry, Sfetie. I really shouldn't have done that." He looked down at me.
I lifted my head so we faced each other. He leaned forward and kissed me. It was so passionate and I loved every second of it. He finally broke away. I rested my head on his chest again and listened to his breathing. We were so peaceful like that...
"Jade," I said. I just realized...
"Yeah?" Jade looked at me.
"Our gig is tomorrow. We need to practice." I was really nervous.
"Well, we can just practice tomorrow morning, 'cause the gig is at 7 at night. It's okay, Sfet. Relax." Jade grinned.
"What if Davey is sick tomorrow?" I asked worriedly.
"Sfetie, if Davey was sick, which is very likely seeing as he ate 17 pancakes, he won't be sick tomorrow. He only overate, he's not actually sick," Jade said knowingly. I smiled.
"Okay..." I replied. I was still nervous, but I trusted Jade.
"Oh, and Jade? My aunt is coming in a couple of days."
"Oh, that's great! As soon as she comes, we can talk to the record dealer and get started!" Jade said excitedly. When he didn't see me smiling his face fell. "What's wrong?"
"Well, Jade...if we actually run away, and we get caught, well, since we're minors we can get runaway charges and actually go to court. Jade, I dunno...I don't want to ruin my life 'cause I made a stupid choice!" I was scared of Jade's reaction.
"Sfetie. Isn't this what we've all wanted? What have we got to lose? Our parents don't care about us! This is our chance to make it big! And if we do get caught, we can't go to jail 'cause we're minors. But we probably won't, 'cause no one except us knows that your aunt is coming here. We already have two CD's ready to record, I think we can do it. But...if you don't wanna do it...I'll just tell Davey..." Jade said.
"NO! No! I'll do it! I'm gonna go!" I said quickly. Jade smiled, like he knew he was gonna win all along.
"Good choice, Sfetie," he said.
