Ollie., chapter 1

It was midnight in my home in Townsville, 2006. Once again I heard my brother, Justin, stumble through the front door from another gig. The latch on the door clicked behind him, but this time I could hear more than his drunken footsteps, he had brought back a friend.
"Want a drink, mate?" I could hear Justin ask.
"No thanks, I think I've had enough for the night," Replied his friend.
I'd only heard the friend say a few words but I knew all of Justin's friends and this guy was not one of them.

I could hear them going up to his room, and the clink of beer bottles. Justin must have convinced his new friend to have a drink anyway.
"This is my sister's room... " I heard Justin mumble as they walked past.
"You have a sister?" asked the stranger.
"Yeah, but don't get any ideas, she's a real scrag... " replied my wonderful brother.
I grabbed my hair brush, and tried to untangle my knotted hair, while flailing my other arm in the direction of the eyeliner sitting on my dresser.
They're gonna come in, I thought.
"Can I meet her?" asked Justin's friend.
"I suppose. She's probably still awake."
A tap at the door. They're coming in!
"Whaaaaat?" I asked in a falsely casual tone.

I flung open the door and looked directly at the new guy. He had a shock of long black hair that was strategically placed in front of his left eye, and extremely pale skin. Bright green eyes glinted from behind his thick rimmed glasses.
He wore a faded black hoodie with the hood up and what looked like his sister's tight leg pants with holes in the knees.
He was also wearing black chucks, which happen to be my favourite shoe of all time.
We stared at each other for a moment.
"Uh...Ollie, this is Billie Joe. Billie, this is my sister Ollie."
Billie Joe. What an awesome name.
"Hey Ollie," Billie Joe held out his hand.
"Hi..." I replied shyly, shaking it.

After a few moments I returned to the real world, in which I was making a huge fool of myself, staring at this newcomer in my home. He must have thought I was an idiot.
"So uh... how was the gig?"
I turned to my brother who was a light shade of pink. He must have drunk a lot.
"It was great!" he said, maybe a little louder than he intended.
"Billie plays the bass in one of the bands I saw. He rocked!"
Now it was Billie's turn to go pink.
"We kinda sucked. But your brother here was too drunk to notice. I had to pull him off the stage before he dived into a crowd of people...who didn't look like they were gonna catch him."
I grinned.
"Sounds like Justin, all right."
Billie Joe smiled back at me.
"Right," said my brother. "Shall I leave you here, Billie, or will I go play pool by myself?"
"I'll come with you," I said with a small laugh.
"God knows Billie will need help if you two are gonna play pool."
Billie Joe smirked.
"You think I'm no good?"
I looked him up and down.
"Your arms are too short," I said with a cheeky smile, "Plus no one has beat Justin at pool since he was 8 years old."
"Well... we'll have to see about that, won't we?"
We all exited out of my dark and gloomy bedroom and headed up the stairs to the attic, where the billiard table was kept.

A few hours later, my brother and my new friend were still at it.
"You were right!" said Billie with a grin, "He really is good!"
I just laughed, soaking in the happy atmosphere. It had been a long time since I felt this good.

Finally, it was time for Billie to leave. It was 6am by this time and we were all puffy eyed and grumpy. Even so, Billie still managed to throw me one of his cheeky grins as he walked out my front door.
I let out a huge sigh and jumped backwards onto the couch.
"So, you dig him?" asked my brother, teasingly.
"What makes you say that?" I asked.
"Oh come ON," he said "It was so OBVIOUS that you two dig each other."
I went red.
"Ah, it's alright." My brother chortled "Your secret's safe with me."
"Go to bed, you fool." I said, laughing and throwing couch cushions at him.
