Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song so We Wouldn't Get Sued, chapter 4

Billie Joe was sitting in front of me when I woke the next morning...afternoon. He was staring out the window at the cloudy sky when I looked up at him and I noticed that he looked really tense. Something inside my head went off and I groaned in pain.

"Serves you right to have a hangover," Billie Joe said, handing me a glass of water and two Aspirin.

"Billie, not now," I muttered, taking the two pills. "I don't want to talk about it with a hangover because I won't be able to think right...and that would be a disadvantage." I put the glass of water against my head to try to stop the pounding, but it didn't help that much. Billie Joe shook his head and walked out of the room in a huff. I lifted my free hand and flipped him off before putting my head back down to try and get better.

About two hours later, I walked out of the shower, all freshened up and ready to chat with Billie Joe. It was going to be really awkward, especially since we were so bitter with each other at the moment. I walked down the stairs and found Billie Joe in the living room, watching the Simpsons.

"Billie," I said over the noise. He ignored me and kept watching the TV. I sighed and grabbed the remote out of his hand, turning off the show. "Billie Joe, do you want to lay your feelings out on the table or not?"

"I don't know," he said flatly.

"Look, you brought it up when I woke up," I said, stepping in front of him so he would look at me. "Now start talking..."

"Fine, you want me to tell you how I feel," Billie Joe yelled suddenly, standing up. He looked furious. "Dammit Jessie, I can't believe you can't see it! I mean we've been friends forever and you're still blind!"

"What are you talking about," I asked.

"Just...forget it," Billie Joe said, sighing. "Even if I told you, you wouldn't believe me." He started to walk off, but I stepped in front of him again and slapped his cheek.

"Tell me, Billie Joe," I said sternly.

"You want to know so bad," he asked. I nodded slowly and he looked above me at the ceiling before letting out a breath. He leaned forward and lightly touched his lips to mine before pulling back to pretend nothing happened. "I...love you, Jessie...hell, I've loved you since you came back from camp last year. And seeing you with Tre' last night right after I kissed you before we left...I just lost it. I thought that...after I kissed you, we'd have a chance to be...together."

"Billie Joe, I love you too," I said. His eyes met mine and I shook my head. "But not in that way. I've..."

"Jessie, there has to be some feeling," Billie Joe said, taking my hands in his. "I mean you're...you seemed like you liked me."

"I did, Billie Joe," I said honestly. "But that was when I was twelve. Three years ago, Billie. I don't feel anything for you anymore." His green eyes turned a shade of gray and I instantly knew that he was depressed at these words.

"But...that kiss," he said.

"That kiss with you was a mistake," I said, nodding. "And that kiss with Tre' was a mistake, I know."

"You know why I defended you with your dumbass boyfriends now," he said.

"Yeah, I do," I said, looking up at him. We were silent for a while before I moved back.

"Are you going to go out with Tre'," he asked.

"No," I said, shaking my head. "I wouldn't do that to you. But Billie, until I know what I'm feeling about this situation, I think it's best that I leave for England for a while again."

"What," he said, his head shooting up. Tears sprang to his eyes, but it didn't affect. "No, Jessie, don't go back...we can sort this out with you here."

"I can't though," I said, shaking my head. "I won't be able to with you guys around, so I'm going to England to meet up with my old friends, Tom, Danny, Dougie, and Harry."

"No," Billie Joe said, a tear falling from his eye. "Please no?" I shook my head and turned to the front door before exiting his house.
