Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song so We Wouldn't Get Sued, chapter 5
Well, I didn't exactly leave straight away. I still had to convince my mom that it was okay to move to England with Tom and those guys. So...I waited about two days to actually bring it up to her. But when I woke up the morning I was going to tell her, there he was again, Billie Joe. He was standing in the kitchen with my mom, a coffee mug in both of their hands, and smiles on their faces.
"Jessie, honey, you could've at least changed," Mom said, looking at my short shorts and my low rise tank top.
"It's Billie Joe, Mom," I said. "He's seen me like this before."
"Well, don't do anything stupid," Mom said, shaking her head. "I have to go to work now, so I'll see you for dinner, I promise." I nodded and she kissed my temple before exiting the house. Billie Joe kept his eyes to the floor while I continued to stare at him, my arms crossed over my chest.
"What are you doing here?" I asked finally.
"I..." He muttered something uncomprehensible and I strained to listen.
"I couldn't hear you, Billie Joe," I said, getting frustrated.
"I came to convince you not to leave," he said quite a bit louder. "Jesus, Jessie, you think just because you don't love me like I love you means that you have the right to walk out of my life without me fighting back?"
"Oh, you have every right to fight back," I said. "But coming on too strong is not something you have a right to."
"You're my best friend, Jessie," Billie Joe said, looking up at me finally. His usually brightly enhanced green eyes were now a shade of gray that I had once recognized in fifth grade when Andy passed away. "And it hurts to hear you say that just because I'm in love with you means that you have to leave."
"I just want to think," I said.
"You can think here," Billie Joe said, taking a step towards me a little. I moved back, not wanting any kind of physical connection between us, and I guess he noticed. His eyes went from a dull gray to a fiery black color that I had once seen when he found Tre' and me in the hallway at Gilman. "What? Do I have some kind of disease or something?"
"No, I just..."
"Geez, Jessie, you're acting like I'm a fucking mentally psychotic person or something," Billie Joe yelled. "What happened to the girl I once knew, the girl who would ask for hugs and kisses on the cheek when she was upset?! What happened to her, Jessie?!" I stayed silent, now looking down at my feet. He stepped towards me again, but I backed up. It was no use to him though. He just kept coming until we were five inches apart and my back was up against the wall.
"Back the fuck up, Billie Joe," I mumbled, looking anywhere but his face.
"No," he said, squaring his shoulders. And this guy was about five inches taller than me, so from my point of view, he was pretty damn scary. I couldn't tell anymore whether this fight was about me not loving him or the fact that he thought that I thought he was some kind of psychotic person that I barely knew. He opened his mouth to say something when suddenly there was a knock on the door. I glared at him and then went to the front door while he went out into the backyard.
"Hey Jessie," Tre' said, smiling at me.
"Hi Tre'," I replied, giving him a weak smile.
"Are you okay?" he asked, giving me a skeptical look. "You look kind of upset. Did something happen?"
"Oh, uh, no, just a fall out with a friend," I said, shaking my head. "Nothing you need to worry about." He nodded and it was silent between us before I broke it again. "So...what brings you here?"
"Um, I just wanted to see if you wanted to go see a movie with me tonight," he said nervously. "But seeing as you're kind of caught up with a friend, then I guess I'll just go..."
"Tre', how about we just keep on the downlow for a while," I said as he turned to leave. "We'll go see a movie tonight, but just as friends, okay? I've already got somebody mad at me for something."
"So...I'll see you at five then," he asked, smiling a little.
"Yeah, five it is," I said, nodding.
"Cool, Tre' Cool," he said, stepping forward. He cupped my elbows in his hands and pulled me into a soft kiss. Oh Jesus, wasn't he listening to me at all? We were supposed to go to the movies as friends...but hell, his lips were moving against mine and it was getting hard to push him away. His hands slid up my arms and into my hair, pulling me closer as his tongue slipped into my mouth, deepening the kiss. I cocked my head to the side and kissed him back, my arms settling around his waist lightly. But then I remembered that Billie Joe was just out back and I pulled away, biting my lip. Tre' gave me a grin and pecked my lips again before heading out the door. I sighed and shut the door before turning around...only to be confronted by Billie Joe.
"Bitch," was all he said before he headed back outside.
"Jessie, honey, you could've at least changed," Mom said, looking at my short shorts and my low rise tank top.
