Being Held Hostage, chapter 3

"What are we gonna do now?" Sarah sobbed. "How do we know they're still alive?"

"Sarah calm down, it's gonna be okay," Alex said. She wrapped her arms around her friend and attempted to comfort her.

The four of them were sitting in the hotel room, waiting for something to happen. Upon checking in Billie recieved a message from the front desk. It was a note that was given to them, they hadn't opened it yet.

"Are we ready to read the note?" Billie asked. Tre had been standing by the window looking down. He turned his head to the others and nodded. Billie opened up the note and read it out loud.

"We have your friends. Don't contact the police, not even a personal detective. This is between us and you. If you ever want to see your friends alive again you will follow the instructions we'll be giving to you later. Keep your phone lines open.

ps the kidnappers"

They all sat in silence.

"What are we supposed to do, just sit here and wait for them to be found dead?" Tre asked. He was still standing by the window.

"Tre calm down," Billie said. Tre gave him a frown and turned away.

Alex and Sarah remained sitting on the couch across from Billie. Billie threw the note on the coffee stable separating the two couches.

"That's it then," he said. "I guess we wait."

Mike sat up straight. His back was killing him. Sitting in the back of a van isn't as comfortable as it looks. Especially with his hands tied behind his back. The wait for something to happen was killing him too. A thought remained in the back of his mind. What would he do if they killed Mandy?

Mandy was asleep. She had been for a while now. Mike watched her sleep. He couldn't believe only hours after he had met this girl he was now trapped in a van with her. No matter how long he's know her, he can't let those ass holes touch her.

The van stopped along with Mike's heart. Something was happening now. They had pulled over. Mike couldn't make out where they were by looking out the window. He would have to wait until they opened the door agian. And that's exactly what happened.

Dan and Hank both got out of the front of the van and made their way to the back. This time they didn't open up the side door, which was closer to Mike, but rather the back door, which was closer to Mandy. The noise of the door opening woke Mandy up.

Hank reached for Mandy and yanked her out of the van.

"MIKE!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. Mike struggled to stop them but he was unable to move. Mandy's hands were still tied behind her back. She landed on the ground hard on her stomach. Hank picked her up by the neck and stood her straight up. He forced her to back away from the van.

Dan grabbed hold of the back door and smiled at Mike.

"Leave her alone you asshole!" Mike screamed at them.

Dan just gave him one more smile before closing the door completely. Mike was thrown back into near complete darkness.

"NO!" he screamed. He started kicking the sides of the van, rocking the whole vehicle from side to side. Then he stood quite. He heard screams coming from outside the van. Fear quickly returned to his face.

"MIKE!" Mandy screamed before Hank put his hand over her mouth. He was dragging her away from the van. Dan leaning up against the van which had stopped rocking. Tears started to fall from Mandy's eyes. She thought this would be her final moments.

Before she could realized what had happened Mandy was thrown to the ground. She landed on her side arm with a thud. She started screaming at the top of her lungs trying to get someone else's attention, anyone who could save them.

"Don't waste your breath sweetie," Hank said. He kneeled down to her level. "We out in the middle of nowhere. No one will save you now."

Mandy's eyes grew wider. Her heart sank.

"What do you want from me?" She cried out. Hank leaned in closer to her.

"Listen to me. I didn't mean to pull you into the van. But it's a mistake we'll both have to live with. Now you can do everything we tell you and everything will be fine. If you don't, I have no problem with killing off one of you."

Back at the van Dan pulled the side door open. He put one foot up on the edge of the van and stared at Mike.

"Now that we're alone we can set down some rules," he said to him.

"Screw you!" Mike spat back at him.

"I thought you would say that," Dan smiled. He then turned to his side and waved towards Hank who had Mandy not to far away. Mike moved over so he could see what was going on.

Hank took out a knife from his pocket and held it up to Mandy's neck.

"Give us a nice scream," he said to her. Mandy just stared at him with eyes of anger. Hank then cut into her skin, not too deep to cause any real harm, but deep enough for it to bleed.

"MIKE!" Mandy screamed.

Mike started to struggle again.

"Stop!" he screamed. "Don't hurt her!"

Dan raised his hand and the screaming stopped. Hank had placed his hand back on Mandy's mouth.

"Now, for the rules," Dan said. Mike sat silently.
