Being Held Hostage, chapter 8

Mike was in near complete darkness. He searched inside himself for the courage to try and escape. The van had stood completely still ever since Dan and Hank took Mandy away.

He struggled to get out of his bounds but failed once more. With each failed attempt of escape more tears came to Mike's eyes. He knew those two bastards were doing something to Mandy and he had to stop them.

"Stay in here!" Dan shouted as he threw Mandy into an abandoned room. She hit the floor with a thud. Taking in what was around her Mandy soon realized she was in an abandoned church. She couldn't believe it.

"Where are we?" She asked. Dan just gave her a stare before slamming the door shut.

"Don't worry about him." A voice came from behind her. Mandy turned her head around and looked up from the floor. She saw Hank sitting on a chair near the corner. "He's just a little nervous about the business transaction."

"What are you talking about?" Mandy asked. She stared back at him with anger and fear in her eyes.

"You don't know where you are do you?" He asked her. Mandy shook her head. "This is where we told your friends to meet us."

Hank had been drinking. He still had a large bottle of alcohol in his hands. Every now and then he would take a drink of it.

"What are you gonna do with me?" Mandy asked. Her anger slowly faded and was replaced with fear.

"Listen, I don't want to do anything to you. I never even wanted you in the first place." Hank said as he stood up and started to walk towards Mandy.

"Then why keep me? I'm of no value to you!" Mandy cried out.

"If it were up to me, I'd let you go," Hank said. He helped Mandy up to her feet. He untied her bounds and lead her to the table he had just been sitting at. Mandy took a seat.

*

"This is it," Tre said. He pulled into the long drive way of the church. It looked like something out of the movies. Old, creepy looking, it looked as if no one had entered it for over a hundred years.

"Why did they have us meet them here?" Billie asked. "There's gotta be something up."

"Let's just go in and get this over with. Once we get Mike and Mandy back everything will be better.

The two of them stepped out of the car and walked towards the church.

*

Mike continued to struggle in the van. He nearly had the ropes around his wrists loosened to the point where he could get them off.

The door to the van slid open. Dan appeared.

"Time to go," He said. He grabbed Mike by his collar and drug him towards the church. Mike looked around him as he was being drug. He noticed he was in the back of an old church. Dan drug him into the back doors and into the main hall. He then threw him to the floor.

"Where's Mandy?" Mike screamed. Dan kicked Mike in the face hard. That had been the first time Dan had seriously injured either him or Mandy. Mike spat up blood before turning his head away from Dan.

"I told you. You'll never see her again."

*

"It doesn't have to be like this, you can just let me go!" Mandy said to Hank.

"I can't. Dan will kill me," Hank told her. Sadness filled his eyes. "He's always been like this."

"Been like what?"

"He's always had this control over me. Ever since we were kids," Hank said. He looked down towards the ground at the thought.

"You mean..."

"Dan and I are brothers." Hank confessed. "He's never let me forget the fact. Every time we do something...anything...he always lets me know if I let him down, I'm letting down family."

"You don't have to listen to him this time. He doesn't have to control your life like this. Help us," Mandy asked. "Please."

Hank just shook his head.

"I'm sorry."

*

Tre opened the churh door. Before the two band mates was the main hall of the church. And down at the end of the hall was a man they had never seen before...and Mike.

"MIKE!" Billie cried out. He had seen that Mike had blood all over his face. Billie started to run towards Mike, but Dan took out a gun and cocked it. Billie stopped dead in his tracks.

"Do you have the money?" Dan asked without facial expression.

"We brought it."

"Where are the other two girls?" Dan asked.

"They stayed at the hotel room. It's safer there." Tre spat the answer at him. Dan just smirked.

"Wise choice." He said. He then bent down and brought Mike to his feet. "Now, give me the money and I'll give you Mike."

*

"If you help me out of here, I won't tell the police you kidnapped us. I'll tell them you had nothing to do with it." Mandy tried to reason with Hank. Hank turned his head to face hers.

"The only way to get out of this now is for either me or Dan to die," Hank said. "If I let you go Dan will kill me. If Dan dies...I have no reason to kill you."

Mandy just stared at him.

"I know you're not really like this," Mandy said. "You're only tough when Dan's around. You're not a bad person."

Hank stood up. He walked towards the door that led to the main hall. He knew Dan was in there ready to take three innocent lives. In his gut he knew this was wrong.

"You don't want this to happen do you?" Mandy asked. She stared at Hank's back that was turned to her. Tears started to fall from her eyes. "You never wanted any of this to happen did you?"

"How would you know?" Hank asked. He tried to sound mean about it, but ended up sounding depressed.

"If you really wanted to kill me, you would have done it," Mandy bravely stated.

Hank turned to face her. She was right. He didn't want to kill her. He didn't want anyone to die. He wished this had never happened.

Hank went over to Mandy, grabbed her by the arm and led her back to the door. He then opened it and started to face the fate that laid before him.

*

Dan pointed the gun straight towards Billie and Tre.

"Give me the money and I'll give you Mike," He repeated.

"Where's Mandy?" Billie asked. Tre looked around, searching for her. His search came up empty.

"She's fine. Give me the money," Dan demanded. Tre brought a duffle bag to Billie who took it from his hands. Billie then led it to Dan who still had the two at gun point.

Billie handed the bag to Dan. Dan threw the bag behind him and motioned for Billie to back away.

"Now Mike," Billie said. Dan nodded and kicked Mike towards Billie and Tre.

Billie hurried to Mike and helped him over to Tre. The three stood in a huddle.

"Now Mandy," Tre said. The three looked at Dan. Dan just smiled and slowly backed away. "Where's Mandy?!?!"

"She's dead. And Mike killed her."

Suddenly the door bursted open, Hank came storming out with Mandy in hand. Billie, Mike and Tre stared at them. Dan's eyes grew wide.

"YOU DIDN'T KILL HER?" Dan shouted. Hank stood proud and shook his head.

"I'm not going to," Hank said. He let go of Mandy's arm. "And I won't let you either."

Dan lifted the gun towards Hank. He aimed and fire.

"NO!" Mandy shouted. She stepped in front of Hank just seconds before Dan had fired the shot.

"MANDY!" Mike shouted.

A powerful, loud bang rang through church. Billie closed his eyes, Tre held his hand to his mouth, Mike started to run towards Mandy, Hank stared at the back of Mandy's head, and Mandy herself fell to the floor.

"You son of a bitch!" Mike screamed as he ran towards Mandy. He kneeled down to her to see if she was even still alive.

"Now...it's your turn," Dan said softly. He held his gun towards Hank. He fired once more.

This time the bullet hit Hank straight in the chest. Hank feel to the floor next to Mandy.

"BASTARD!" Billie ran towards Dan. He wasn't fast enough, Dan turned his gun towards Billie and fired again.

Billie's hands went straight towards his right leg, the throbbing pain shot through his body. He too fell down to the floor. Dan watched him fall, as Billie fell Tre was left standing alone.

Dan raised his gun to him now. Tre didn't know what to do, he was sure to die if Dan fired one more bullet.

A bang rang out.
