Different Eyes, chapter 2

Kara woke up in a soft plain white bed. She looked around and noticed she was in a room with a dresser and some clothes in the closet.

"What the? Where am I?" she asked herself. "Am I dead?" She slapped herself hard shook her head no. Rubbing her arm from where she had hit herself, she got up and sat on the bed. The door burst open and a guy with black hair and green eyes walked in.

"I see that you're awake," he said. She looked at him. Where had she seen him before? This thought was taking over her mind. She just nodded and the guy sat down. "I'm Billie Joe by the way," he said and extended his hand.

Her eyes widened. 'Of course!' she thought, 'his face is on two of my CDs.' She extended her hand to shake his. "My name's Kara," she said softly and looked away from his green eyes. Billie noticed that she had light blue eyes. He still couldn't help but notice that she looked exactly like him, and it made him kind of nervous.

"What were you doing at Pinole?" he asked trying to keep the talking going so he could figure it out.

"Uhh...I tried to run away from my ex-boyfriend, but he found me and..." she trailed off and lifted up the bottom of her shirt, only to see bandages. She looked at him and he smiled. She smiled back.

"Where are your parents?" he asked with concern in his voice.

"Oh..uh...they died about five years ago...when I was nine," she said softer and looked down, trying not to cry. Billie felt instantly guilty. He had lost his dad when he was ten, but he couldn't even begin to know what it felt like to loose both your parents.

"I'm sorry. If there's anything I can do just let me know. But where have you been living all this time?" he asked still with guilt in his voice.

"I live at friends' houses, or people that think I should stay with them for a while," she replied looking up to see him grinning.

"You can stay here now..." he said with the grin still on him face. This kind of creeped her out and she backed away a bit. "No, I'm not going to hurt you. I just thought that you would like to." The grin disappeared and he chuckled to himself.

"For how long?" she asked and cocked her head to the side, just like dogs do.

"Well...uh...forever!" he grinned again and so did she.

"Are you serious?!" she studdered in excitement.

"Yes, I've already talked it over with my wife and she said if you don't have a house to go to its fine." He started grinning again.

"But I have to go to my friend's house to go get my things," she said and got up.

"And what would that be?" he asked.

"Well I have a guitar and a bunch of your CDs." She grinned again.

"Okay I'll drive you now!" Billie was getting excited, it's like he was bounding across the room when he walked calmly. They got into his car and Kara showed him the way to get to her friend's house. They were talking about music and suddenly it went to an uncomfurtable silence.

"So...what were you parent's names?" Billie asked hoping he would get a good answer for that.

"My dad's name was Ace Black. And my mom's maiden name was Nina Holiday. But her nick-name from highschool was Nemo for some reason. I don't know how because that movie came out this year..." She trailed off then. Billie's ears perked up when she said Nemo. He stopped the car in the driveway and when Kara went into the front door he put his head in his hands and leaned on the steering wheel.
