In A Daze, With Far Away Eyes, chapter 1

"GET OUT!"
"Sweetie, please don't get excited, you're pregnant."
"I don't care! Get out now!!!" She was throwing my things out the back door. This was almost like a dream, and all I wanted to do was wake up and see her lying next to me, smiling.
"Nothing happened, baby. We barely even talked."
"Yeah, I bet! Mike saw you!"
The image of Mike walking in on me and Emilee flashed in my mind. But it was nothing.
"This is the final straw, Billie! I don't want to have to worry about you every time you leave on tour."
"You don't have to, Adie. I don't get with groupies, you know that."
"Then why the hell were you in the bedroom with HER!?"
"Adie, please."
She punched me in the face and shoved me out the door.
"I don't even care. And don't bother coming tomorrow for Joey's birthday. I'll make an excuse." She slammed the door. I wiped small tears off my eyes and looked up to my son Joey's room; he was looking out the window, his little hands against the glass. He was only 4. He didn't deserve to be around all the yelling. I picked up my stuff and left for Tre's. I heard giggling as I went to knock on the door. I knew what was going on, so I decided not to bother him. I drove over to Mike's instead. I knocked, and he came to the door, Anastasia right next to him.
"Hope I'm not interrupting anything," I said, not really caring after he had spilled about Emilee to Adie.
"No, of course not, we just got finished eating. Come on in."
I came in and sat on the couch. Ana was knitting a small blanket. It was pink with three initials on it: BEP.
"What's this?" I asked.
"Oh yeah, we were gonna tell you. Ana's pregnant," Mike said, sitting next to me, looking lovingly up at Ana.
"Congratulations, man." I clapped him on the back.
"How far along is Adrienne now?" Ana asked.
"Oh." My heart ached at the sound of her name. "About 6 months."
"Guess the baby will have a playmate then," she said.
I nodded.
"Something wrong, Bill?" Mike asked.
"Actually, yeah. Um, Adie kicked me out."
"What? Why?" Ana asked.
"She heard about Emilee," I said, glancing sideways at Mike; his eyes got wide, and he looked away from me.
"You told her?" I asked.
He sighed. "No. She overheard me talking to John on the phone. Trust me, man, I would never have told her anything. I know nothing happened."
It was hard to stay mad at Mike. He had those sad puppy dog eyes that would sway anyone.
I nodded and rubbed my sore eye where Adie hit me. There would be a bruise there tomorrow. I'd give Adie credit, though, she can defiantly defend herself if something ever happened. She was tough.
I just wanted to sleep. I thanked them for letting me stay and headed up to the spare bedroom.
I was about to lay down when something hit the window. I looked out to see just the person I didn't wanna see: Emilee. I let the window up.
"Are you fucking stalking me?"
"I saw your car. Can I come up?" she asked.
"Mike and Ana are asleep," I said.
"Then you come down here," she negotiated.
"No! Fuck off!" I closed the window. She threw another rock at the window. I threw the window open again.
"What do you want?!"
"Come down here and find out," she said. I sighed. I knew this wouldn't be good.
I headed back down the stairs and told Mike I had left something in my car when he asked where I was going. She was standing on the sidewalk propped against my beautiful Ford Fairline, looking like she owned the place. She always did.
"What? Come to further destroy my relationship with my family?"
"Adie knows?"
"Fuck yeah, she knows! She kicked me out of my house! I can't even go to my son's 4th birthday because of you!"
"Me? You're the one who came into the bedroom! You set yourself up."
"Fuck you!" I began to see red. This bitch was smiling. I wanted nothing more than to slap that stupid grin off her face, but I hesitated.
"Billie, I never meant for all this to fuck up your life. I mean, nothing happened. What's she getting all worked up about?"
"Wouldn't you think something happened if someone caught your husband in a bedroom with another girl?"
"I don't have a husband."
"That's one more lucky man in this world," I said.
She sighed and looked down at her shoes. "That's the way you feel about me, huh? I don't deserve happiness with someone who loves me?"
"Everyone does, but you-"
She cut me off by cupping the back of my neck and pressing her lips against mine. I tried my hardest not to kiss back, but for some unknown reason, we began to melt into each other. I leaned her back against the car and ran my hands from the top of her neck down the front of her blouse. Things got more heated and we opened the back door and never missed a beat. The whole time I was thinking about stopping, but I just couldn't. She was entrancing. Especially in the moonlight.
We lay, out of breath, moments later in the back seat of my car. I looked up to see Mike had already gone to bed. I rested my head on her shoulder, not being able to believe what I had just done. I had just cheated on my wife. And, even in light of all that had happened that night, when Emilee smiled up at me, I smiled back.
