Immortal, chapter 2

For the rest of day, I walked about the school on autopilot, my body being there, but my mind being in a whole other dimension. How did I run so fast? Surely, whatever athletic talent I had hadn't been there before. My gym teachers will prove it.
Finally, after four and a half excruciating hours of English, algebra, biology, and (horribly enough) gym, it was lunchtime. And I could not believe it.
As soon as I entered the cafeteria, I saw all the food and grabbed a pizza slice, fries, a Fudgesicle, a Coke, and a brownie. I paid up and sat down at a picnic table on the blacktop with Rose.
"Good Lord, Leila, did you eat anything today?" she asked as soon as she saw my mountain of food.
"Yes", I replied. "I am just hungry for no apparent reason Maybe I'm getting taller."
"Let's hope so," Rose said. "You're too short. Everyone thinks my best friend is a midget."
"Now that was just uncalled for," I said with a pinch of evil in my voice.
I began to eat. The food tasted good in my mouth, but as soon as I finished, I longed for something more. What I really wanted though, that would satisfy my hunger, I did not know.
That's when I saw her. Tammie Hill.
Tammie Hill was a senior cheerleader with hair bigger than her own head. She was an evil bitch, and even that is an understatement. She walked over to our table and asked, "Hey lesbos, what's up?"
I turned around and viciously yanked on Tammie's hair. "Your hair will come out in two seconds and your mouth will be sewn shut if your do not leave," I said in a demonic voice. "Go away."
But when I waited for Tammie to leave, she just stood there with her mouth hanging open and a look of pure horror on her face. At the time, I said that this backed up the statement that Tammie had no brains whatsoever.
I stared back at her. "You heard me. Leave."
She rushed away as fast as the wind.
I turned back to Rose to talk to her, but she too had a look of shock on her face. "What is wrong with everyone today?" I asked.
"No, Leila. The real question is 'what's wrong with you?'"
"How the hell should I know, I've been shocked by myself as well too."
"But when you were talking to Tammie, you were pure evil. I mean evil. Your eyes turned red."
"What? My eyes didn't turn red. This isn't a photograph, you know."
"I know."
For the rest of the lunch period, I sat in utter silence. Did my eyes turn red? Was I evil?
The bell ending lunch period then rang. I turned myself back on autopilot and sat through art class and global history.
And then, after what seemed to be an eternity, school ended. I wanted to run home, but I didn't dare risk it. So, I walked.
I reached the front door and took my key out and let myself in. How wonderful to be home, I thought. I headed up to my room to crash on the bed, but when I turned to collapse, I saw an envelope with fancy writing on it addressed to me. There was no way it could be from one of my parents.
Slowly, I picked up the envelope, wondering what it held. But for some reason, I knew it held the answers to my questions. It was what I had become.
