Immortal, chapter 3

I felt a curious dread as I moved the envelope in and out of my fingers. This day was already strange enough; it didn't need to get stranger just now.
For a few seemingly uneventful minutes, I stared blankly at the envelope. The way the handwriting curled and swirled into delicate shapes was almost... supernatural. My name, Leila Ortiz, was shaped into such unnatural beauty that I almost believed it wasn't my own.
I couldn't take it anymore. I ripped open the envelope with the same violent nature as I had when I had told off Tammie earlier in the day. Inside, a letter was evenly folded into a rectangle. In the same beautifully penned writing, the letter read:

Dear Leila,
You do not know me. You never will. The only things I know about you are the things that rest at the front of your mind.
You see, Leila, I am what they call "vampires". I came across you on my monthly hunt and smelled you. You see, although I am an Italian vampire that lives in Rome, we hunt further away so the humans don't suspect us of murder.

Us?
The letter continued.

Your smell is so sweet, mouth-watering even. I had plans to kill you and feed on you. But I couldn't kill you. You are just too beautiful to kill.

Well, that was a first. Too beautiful to kill... mostly, I hear I'm too ugly to live.

So, instead, I gave you a gift. A gift of Immortality.
You are a vampire.

The rest of the letter went on to discuss the dos and don'ts of the vampires, the myths, followed by the truths, and all the special powers that they had. That now, I had.
As I folded up the final page of the letter and set in the top of my dresser, I began to feel fatigued. I was damned for eternity. How unbelievably dumb could this vampire be? They lead lonely, miserable lives of despair. This wasn't a gift at all.
My stomach began to turn in irritation. It wasn't hunger at all. It was thirst. A thirst for human blood.
