Hug me, brother, chapter 5
3 hours later my arm was stiff and my ass was numb but Jake had learned about 10 songs and seemed fairly proud. His father's genes must run in his blood because he picked it up really well.
We were sitting on Jakes bed just talking when there was a knock at the door and a woman walked in.
"Oh I didn't know you had company Jakey, hey I'm Jakes mom Adrienne," she said nodding at me
"Hi, I'm Delilah. Jake's friend's sister," I said grinning at the complications.
"So what's up mom?" Jake said to Adrienne.
"Just thought I'd say that your dad is home tonight and I'm cooking up a big dinner for it, you and Seth are welcome to stay," Adrienne said looking at me.
"Thank you, but we couldn't possibly it's a family thing. Plus Seth is such a pig, he'd eat everything," I said truthfully.
"True" agreed Jake, "Anyway, where is Seth?" Jake said standing up.
"Oh, he's downstairs on the X-box with Joe," said Adrienne walking out the door
"Go figure," I muttered under my breath as we went to join them.
A little while later we were all playing on the play station. Jake and I, verses Joey and Seth. And we were kicking there asses. After a very heated game of virtual golf, we were all sitting around laughing when Jake had a sudden thought.
"Hey can we jam?" he said looking at his brother.
"How can we do that?" Joey asked Jake.
"You on the bass, Delilah on the Drums and me on guitar. Seth can be a groupie," He said smirking.
Before anyone could disagree Jake was dragging everyone to the music room and pulling out song books. I could just about read drum music it's a bit like tic-tac-toe the way it's written I mean. Luckily the songs Jake wanted to cover I heard of before so I was quite open to playing them.
We just finished playing one song called Longview and Jake was a bit slow, but Joey's bass line was constant and kept my drumming clean. I put down the sticks and got up.
"Hey Jake can I play guitar for a bit?" I said itching to get my hands on that Gibson he held. He nodded and handed it to me.
I slipped it over my shoulder and struck the first few chords of a song I wrote.
Lying here, waiting for your footsteps,
I know you're not coming home.
But can I dream and hope
That you will come back to me (back to me)
It's too late.
I wish if you only knew
The pain you put me through,
How now I'm standing on the rooftops
Wishing for my heart to stop
I just want to scream (scream)
Ignore me, you hate me
Killing me lately
I feel this love inside my soul
But your hatred for me can only grow
Why do you break me (hate me, hate me)
Lying here, waiting for your footsteps,
I know you're not coming home.
But can I dream and hope
That you will come back to me (back to me)
It's too late.
I finished up my song. I know it was crap but I've never been good at words. I enjoy playing music though. I looked up when I heard the sound of clapping and saw a small man with black hair clapping. He must be Joey and Jake's dad I assumed.
"Very nice," he smiled. "I'm Billie," he said extending a hand.
"D-Deliah," I stuttered. This man made me nervous, and I'm never nervous. It confused me I looked at Seth for some sort of support. I think he noticed because he stood up off a random stall and coughed.
"Well I think we should be getting home now, thank you for having us. See ya at school."
He grabbed my hand and we headed out with a wave. We jumped into my car and we took off to the crap hole we called home. Driving down Joey's and Jake's road we passed a kid on the side walk with bright blue hair and a Mohawk, the hottest person ever. I slowed down a little bit as we went passed so I could casually stare at him.
I think he noticed though because he gave me a wink then carried on walking.
"Oh my god, he's like so cute. Like totally," Seth said noticing me blushing.
"Shut up," I said nudging him. Although I did agree he was cute.
Later on that night Seth and I were watching the tube, I couldn't stop thinking about that blue haired boy. I knew I had to meet that boy, I had to know him.
"You know that gig you said you'd take me to, well its tomorrow. By the way it's Joey's band," he said still keeping his eyes locked on the characters of south park.
"Sure, that friend of yours Chad still coming?" I said remembering the conversation we had previously.
"Naw, I thought maybe we could take Jake," I nodded and then went upstairs to get an early night. I hate waking up on Sunday mornings.
At exactly 3 minutes past 11 in the morning I could be found wrapped in a towel lying on my bedroom floor. I just got out the shower and was having a little break. There was a knock at my door and my mom walked in.
"Hey doll," she said sitting on my bed, in reply I rolled onto my stomach and looked at her.
"Steve is taking me out to the beach today, we were wondering if you wanted to come, along with your brother of course."
"Aw mom I would but I promised Seth I'd take him to a gig today, sorry," I said shaking my head.
"Fine then shit face," she said walking out and slamming my door. She had a bit of a short temper.
