Girl With Five Colors In Her Hair, chapter 3

*Five Years Later in Seattle, Washington, Danny POV*

Jesus, five years later and we still couldn't find her. How in the bloody hell were we supposed to find her with just a picture at a show when we'd seen so many together? Sometimes Jessie can be quite demented about these kinds of things...I mean we all know how Americans can be. But something I don't get is why she left in the first place. Just because most friends don't stay together forever, some do. And now it was her fault that we weren't going to be friends forever.

I kicked a rock with my ratty converse and sighed, taking a sip of my Jones soda. Tom had to be the worst in our situation. Every bloody day after band practice, he sits at the computer and types in tons of names on Myspace to see if she has an account. He's also quite demented, but I guess it helps. I looked up from my feet and saw a little girl with light brown hair walking towards me, a frightened look on her face. She stopped in front of me and I saw a few tear streaks down her face.

"Hey, little chicklet, are you okay?" I asked in a sweet voice. She shook her head no and started to cry. "Aw, don't cry, chicklet, what's your name?"

"S-S-Sarah," she stuttered through her tears.

"Well, Sarah, I'm Danny," I said. "What's wrong?"

"I-I-I can't find m-my mommy," she cried. I looked up and around me to see if I could find a woman searching for something, but I didn't see anything. "W-will you help me f-find her?"

"Uh, sure," I said, nodding. She took my hand and we started to walk the direction she had come from. "What does your mum look like?"

"She-she has red hair, blue eyes, and has a pick necklace 'round her neck," she said, taking her thumb out of her mouth.

"Where was she the last time you saw her?" I asked.

"We were...in the mall," she said, looking up at me with sad eyes. "I was playing with some kids and looked where Mommy was, but she wasn't there. And I wanted to find her by myself."

"It's okay," I assured her as we entered the Alderwood Mall. "We'll find her for you." She smiled up at me and I smiled back, not really sure if we were going to find her or not.

We went through every single store in that mall, which was plenty of stores, if you ask me. But we couldn't find her mum. By the time we got to the last store to check, Sarah was crying again, rubbing at her eyes and stuff. I tried to help by telling her we'd find her, but it didn't really do anything.

"How about I buy you some lunch, chicklet," I said, looking over at the food court. She nodded. "What would you like?"

"McDonald's," she said. I nodded and we went over to the line to order. We got our food and sat down in one of the tables before starting to eat. Sarah stopped crying for a bit, just enough to tell me some things about her and her mum.

"What's your mum's name," I asked.

"Jessie," she said, swallowing her bit of chips (fries). "She likes music...lots of music."

"Do you listen to music, Sarah," I said, picking up my drink.

"Yes," she said, nodding. "Mommy lets me listen to Green Day and AFI and the Foo Fighters. My favorite is McFly."

"Oh really," I said, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, Mommy plays them in the car," she said excitedly.

"What's your favorite song," I asked.

"That Girl," she said, giggling. "It's funny. I like Danny the best. He's a good singer."

"How does your mum know McFly's music," I inquired, but I didn't get an answer. Instead, I heard a loud gasp and then running footsteps.

"Sarah, my god," I heard a woman say. She lifted Sarah into her arms and hugged her tight, closing her eyes which had begun to fill with tears. "Oh Sarah, never scare Mommy like that again, do you hear me?"

"You were gone, Mommy," Sarah cried into her mum's shoulder.

"I was sitting on the other side, Sarah, reading my book," her mum said.

"Danny got me lunch and helped me find you," Sarah said, lifting her head from her mum's shoulder. Her mum looked at me and I finally saw her face. My eyes widened at the sight of her and hers widened as well.

"Danny," she muttered, putting Sarah down. "Danny, OMG, how did you...?"

"I didn't," I said, shaking my head. I stood up and immediately was thrown back into the table as Jessie squished me in her arms. Her sobbing made me feel a little bit weird, but it was great to see her again. "Why did you leave us?"

"I don't know," she cried. "It was just...stressful to have you gone and I thought that it would be easier just to end it...but it wasn't Danny. It was much worse than I thought. I missed you guys so much, but I thought you guys would hate me, so I never came back for you."

"We would never hate you, Jessie," I said, kissing her hair and pulling her tighter against me. "God, we'd never hate you...you were dumb for leaving us. You were completely stupid and dull and so in love that you had to leave."

"I know, I know," she said, shaking her head. She lifted her head off my shoulder and wiped at her tears, laughing to herself. "God, I must look horrible."

"No, you look beautiful," I said, catching a tear that she had missed. "Let's go get some coffee and talk for a while, yeah?" She nodded and lifted Sarah in her arms before we headed for the Starbucks across the street.
