'Cause Our Love Will Light The Way, chapter 2

Jakob's POV
I watched her lope past me, her eyes filled with tears. I willed my self to say something, to do something, but I couldn't move. I couldn't believe what I had just done. I had never hit her before. I didn't know what had come over me. I just felt so angry, so full of fury. Tears flooded down my cheeks. I stumbled back to the sofa and let myself flop down on it. I don't know how long I lay there for, but I just cried and let what I had done sink in.

The doorbell rang. I knew it wasn't Em, as she had her keys on her. I didn't even bother getting up. I heard the door open, and someone enter.
"Jakob? Jakob..." a familiar voice called.
"I'm in here," I said, not even bothering to mop the tears off my face.
Dad and Joey came into the living room.
"What the hell happened to you?" asked dad, resting his hips on the back off the couch, looking down at me.
"I... hit her," I said, gazing through tears at the pale whit ceiling.
"You hit her..." said Joey slowly, trying to make sense of my disjointed statement.
I nodded, not taking my gaze off the wall.
"You hit Emily?" dad asked. I nodded again.
"Wow... that's... unexpected. Why?"
"We were arguing, pretty heatedly, and then she said something that just made me so angry. The next thing I knew I had hit her."
"That's really bad, dude," said Joey.
"Yeah, thanks for that," I snapped.
He shrugged. I looked at dad, hoping that he would come up with an answer to all of this.
Suddenly my cell rang. I didn't move to answer it.
"You gonna get that?" asked Joey, looking at me.
I shook my head miserably.
Dad sighed and reached over me to pick up the phone.
"Hello? Jakob's phone," he answered. Then he paused, twisting his lips in thought. "Ohhhhh, okay, I'll put him on. See ya,"
Dad handed me the phone.
"It's Frankie; he wants to talk to you," I grabbed the phone and walked to my room for some privacy. "Hey Frankie," I said.
"Why did you hit her, huh? Why did you hit Em?" I clenched my fist in frustration. I didn't want to talk about this any more with anyone but the lady herself. I needed to talk to Em. Tears of frustration and sadness spilled from my eyes.
"We were arguing, and then I just got so angry, and then I hit her. I'm so fuckin' screwed up. I don't know how to fix this," I said, silently crying.
"Well you'd better fix it man, 'cause she's really upset. I can't believe that you'd do that."
"Where is she? I need to see her, I need to talk to her," I asked desperately.
"She's with me right now, and she's gonna stay the night with us,"
"Frankie, I need to talk to her. I need to apologize. Can you put her on?"
"Look, just let it cool down for a night, and then talk to her, okay? You've really scared her,"
He hung up. I smacked my self in the forehead violently, but then stopped, wondering how crazy I really was. I'm so fucking stupid I thought, pounding myself mentally.
I loved her so much, she's my soul mate. And now she's gonna hate me. I can't life without her. I can't imagine what life would be like not waking up to her gorgeous face each morning. I can't imagine not hearing her beautiful laugh ever again. I can't imagine not spending the rest of my life with her.

Frankie's POV
I tossed and turned. I couldn't sleep. Even though it was almost midnight, I knew that Emily would still be wide awake, just as I was. I decided to go talk to her. I propped my self up, and looked over at my sleeping girlfriend. She was very due; she was almost at nine months now. Tracing patterns on her cheek, I bent down and kissed her lips. I heaved myself quietly out of bed and walked to the guest room. I opened the door silently, and shut it behind me. Moonlight was dimly lighting the room. I could see Emily sitting up, with her knees hugged to her chest, on the bed. She turned around when I tiptoed across the floor.
"Hey," she whispered.
"Hey," I whispered back, sitting down next to her on the mattress.
"I knew you'd be awake," I said, smiling.
"Oh yeah, how did you know?" she said, also smiling.
"'Coz ever since you were a little kid you never slept on any bad thoughts," I said. I almost knew her back to front.
She nodded wearily. "That's true," She looked out to the window, lost in thought. It was a beautiful night; the stars were shining, and the moon was glowing. She turned to me.
"Does he love me?" she asked. I smiled at her.
"Of course he does," I said. It was easy to see, even from a distance, the love that Em and Jakob shared. It was inspirational to see a pair that in love. We gazed out the window in silence.
"Do you remember when we were little, how we used to dress up and dad would take photos of us?" I asked her, trying to veer away from the fight.
She smiled. "And then dad would get dressed up too," she said, chuckling.
I laughed softly. "And dad used to say that he'd show them at our twenty first's, but he never did," I said. I sighed contently.
"Do you reckon that we'll ever do that with our kids?"
She laughed. "Of course we will. We'll have dress up parties every weekend, you, me, Stella, Ciarra and the newborns!" she joked.
I laughed. "You're gonna be a great mother, you know that?" I asked her.
Em turned to me. "Thanks. You're a great father."
Exhaling, she rested her head on my shoulder. I put my arm around her.
"You know, we thought of some names for the baby," I said
"Yours or mine," she joked.
"We think we're gonna name it Vanessa Anne if it's a girl and Jesse if it's a boy," we hadn't told any one this.
She smiled. "I think they're great names."
"And we were thinking, if it's okay with you, that you could be the godmother."
She beamed. "It would be an absolute pleasure."

After a little more talking I felt her nod of to sleep on my shoulder. I lay her down properly on the bed, being careful not to wake her, and put the doona on top of her. I kissed her cheek, and left to crawl back into bed with Stella.
