'Cause Our Love Will Light The Way, chapter 5
Four years later, Emily's POV
I was just hanging around the house, waiting for Jakob to call. It was six in the evening, and I had already prepared dinner, and I couldn't wait to hear Jake's voice again. It had been a month since Jakob had left, but I still remembered that day. It was one of the saddest days of my life, even though I knew I was going to see him soon, I could see the pain in his eyes. The fact that now he wasn't just leaving me, but also Meeka.
Jakob picked up the last of the suitcases and hauled it to the car, and into the boot. He turned around and walked back into the house, where Meeka and I were waiting. Jakob walked up to Meeka and knelt down to her level.
"Are you going now daddy?" she asked.
"Yes sweetie, daddy's got to go now," he said, putting his arms around her small body and picking her up off the ground. Holding her close to his chest, he kissed her forehead, her cheek, over and over. "I don't want you to go," Meeka sulked.
A tear let loose and rolled down her face. Jakob placed a hand on her cheek and smeared off the tear with his thumb.
"I know baby, but it'll only be for a while," he kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly.
"Are you coming back tomorrow?"
"No hunny, I don't know when I'll be back," he lied.
"Why do you have to go?" she whined.
"Because this is my job, baby doll. I have too." He put Meeka back on the ground, looking as though he would love nothing better than to just hold Meeka in his arms all night long. He picked up her small hands that were hanging loosely by her side and kissed them lovingly. I looked at Jakob. He had tears brimming around his eyes, and I knew that he was trying his hardest not to cry, for Meeka's sake, and even for mine.
He stood up and pulled me into his chest wrapping his arms around me, his head resting on my left shoulder. He sighed heavily.
"I'm gonna miss you," I heard him whisper. I kissed his neck.
"Call every night, promise?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"I promise," he said. He brought his lips down upon mine, and we shared a kiss that would be the last one for a couple of months.
He's lips lingered on mine. I could still taste him. Our eyes met, filled with tears. Our foreheads leaned against the other, as we cherished the remaining seconds we had together.
He pulled away and swiftly pecked my cheek, not wanting to make this harder than it had to be.
The telephone rang through the house, and I ran into the kitchen and picked it up.
"Hello?" I asked, even though I knew who was on the other end of the line.
"Hello, my love," came the oh-so-familiar voice. The voice that made shiver with desire, but at the same time gave me a sense of great comfort.
"Hey Jake," I said, a wide smile painted across my face. "How are you?"
"I'm fine, I'm bored though. . ." he mumbled, trailing off.
Resting my hip against the cool counter, I switched the phone to the other ear.
"So what, I'm just your time filler now, am I?" I joked mordantly.
"Nah, you're not just a time filler. . . I love the sex as well," he sauntered, though I could hear the grin on his face.
"Is that all I am to you?" I asked playfully.
"Oh yeah. . . I love it how you do that thing with yo-" I cut him off.
"Fine, I guess I'll have to just find a new husband. One that actually LOVES me," I giggled.
"NO! I didn't mean that, you know I didn't. I do love you, lots. And not just for the sex, for other things too . . . but I do love the sex, it's excellent," he rambled on. I laughed softly.
"You're too easy," I teased. He was silent for a minute, and I could almost hear his brain working hard, trying to think of a smart comeback.
". . Shut up," he mumbled.
Sniggering silently to my self, I peered through the doorway of the den, just to check on Meeka. I walked back to the kitchen and sighed.
"I miss you," I spoke softly. I could hear Jakob readjusting the phone.
"I miss you too, Em. Not a day goes by when I don't crave having you here by my side," he confessed. "You and Meeka are coming up soon though, aren't you?
"Yeah, two weeks and one day," I grinned. I was counting down the days until I got to see Jakob again.
"How's everything there? I forgot to ask."
"Good, good. How did the last show go?"
"It was really cool. Except, when they didn't understand what I was saying,"
I chuckled. Meeka and I were going to visit Jakob and the rest of the band in two weeks time. We were going to travel with them for four weeks, going to places like Paris, and the UK. We were really excited.
"Can you put Meeka on?" he asked.
"Sure, hold on," I took the phone to the den, where Meeka was seated on a beanbag watching sponge bob.
"Meeka, daddy's on the phone, he wants to speak to you," I said, holding out the phone for her. She jumped up excitedly and raced towards the phone. She had been missing her father a lot since he had gone. She was now four years old, and was to start primary school next year. She made me so proud when I saw her for the first time trying out her new school uniform, her long black hair tied up in a pony tail on the top of her head, and her bright blue eyes shining.
"Daddy!" she squealed excitedly in the phone.
