Blood, Sex, and Booze, chapter 4

She was almost scared to look at her mother.

"Yeah?" she said. The number one thing she hated was disappointing her mom.

"Why did you invite all these new people here without introducing me?!" she said, smiling.

"Oh. Come on," she mumbled to Billie, Tre, and Mike.

When they got to her mom, she held out her hand.

"Well, well, I can't believe it," her mom said with a huge smile.

"What?"

"Amy Lee hasn't had any friends come here in almost two years."

"Really?" Tre asked.

Her mom looked at Amy, and she lightly shook her head "no".

"So, you guys are in Amy's grade, right?"

"Nope, she's one ahead of us."

Amy looked over at Mike, and then Billie with admiration. If Mike knew what grade she was in, that meant that Billie told Tre and Mike about her.

Billie noticed she was staring, and he tilted his head. She just smiled at him. He smiled weakly back.

Amy looked up at the sky, and her eyes got big. There were really dark clouds coming towards them.

"Has Amy showed you her room yet? It's quite lovely," her mom said.

They shook their heads.

"Well, come on," she said and headed toward the house.

When they got there, they all 'oohed' and ' awwed' (well not really, but you get it).

They all talked, and after a while, they heard the wind starting to pick up a little.

"Oh, I guess we better go," Mike said with a sigh.

"Don't be silly. I can give you a ride later."

"Oh, alright," Billie perked up.

They all went downstairs, and her mom started jabbering again.

"Mike, you look strong enough to stand the cold. Would you and Amy mind walking to the store for these things for dinner tonight?" Amy's mom handed them a small list.

"Okay? Billie, Tre, let's go." Amy motioned them over.

"Oh, no. They can stay here if they want to," her mom smiled.

"I don't care," Tre mumbled.

Billie sighed. He wanted to go, but he could tell Amy's mother didn't want him and Tre to.

"Okay, I guess I'll stay." Billie just stared at the floor.

"Alright. Be back in a few," Amy Lee said.

They walked out the door into the cold.

"Why must we walk?" Mike said.

"Because my mom asked us to," Amy replied.

Mike raised an eyebrow. "And why didn't she want Billie and Tre to come?"

"I don't know. That's just the way she wanted things."

"So, what were you gonna tell us earlier?" Mike asked.

"Oh, umm...I'll tell you later."

"Why not now?"

"Because I said so."

"Have you ever argued with your mom?"

"Why do you ask?"

"Because you don't care that she didn't want Billie and Tre to come, and she didn't want us to drive."

"Can I ask you a question?"

"What?"

"Why are you so curious?"

Mike shrugged. "I don't know." There was a pause.

"So, wh-" Right then, Amy slipped on the ice.

"Oh my gawd. Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she said weakly.

Mike kneeled down next to her.

"Owww, my knee." She wrapped her arms around her knee.

"Do you wanna go back and drive?"

"No, it's up there, anyways. Let's just go."

"Alright." Mike helped her up, but when she tried to fall again, he caught her.

"Can you walk on it?"

"Well, what do you think when I fall when I tried to get up?"

"Okay, well, I'll help you, alright?"

She nodded. Mike helped her up, and she leaned on him as they walked. It was a cute sight. As they walked their last block, they talked a little more.

"You know, I play drums," Amy said, hoping to start a conversation.

"Very cool. I play bass."

"Yeah, Billie told me. Tre plays drums, and you guys are in a band and blah, blah, blah."

"Mmhm."

They went to the store and got what they needed. On the way back, they talked a lot. Mike was carrying four bags of groceries and had a girl's arms wrapping around him. He really liked it. When they got back home, Billie and Tre was in her room.

Mike helped her up the stairs and went into Amy Lee's room.

"About time," Billie said.

Tre was in her lounge, beating on her drum set, but when he heard that they were back, he came into the bedroom.

"THAT is the best drum set I've ever played."

"Mm, thanks," Amy said.

"So, what happened to your leg?" Billie asked.

"Miss Clumsiness, here, slipped on an ice patch," Mike replied.

"Oh, shut up," Amy Lee said.

"HEY, EVERYBODY, COME DOWN HERE!" Amy's mom cried up to them.

The four of them ran downstairs to the kitchen.

"Look at this." Her mom pointed at the TV.

*A blizzard warning has been issued to the following counties: Anderson, Dawson, Valley, and Gordon. People are advised to stay indoors from this storm. Winds up to 100mph and blowing snow was issued as well.*

"The weather man is so weird," Amy Lee said, head tilted.

"Amy!" Her mom nudged her.

"Well, I guess we should be leaving now," Billie said

"Awww, I don't want you to leave," Amy whined.

"Well, they got to go some time," her mom told her.

Amy Lee stared at the floor. "Can I spend the night with you?" she said, making a cute face.

"Um, I don't care. Depends on your mom," Billie said.

They all looked at her mom. They could tell she was thinking.

"Well, I don't wanna make a bad impression so..." Their eyes got big as they waited for her answer. "Alright."

"WOO!" Amy cheered. "Lemme go get my stuff." She ran up stairs.

"Don't worry, I'll give her my room," Billie said.

"No, I'm not worried," Bridget smiled. (Her mom.)

"Ha, alright," Tre said.

"I'm ready!" Amy shouted.

"Alright. Don't stay up too late. Have fun!" Bridget shouted.

Bridget, as you can see, already trusted these boys a lot. She had known them for a few hours, but she cared a lot for them already.

They walked to their pick up and saw there wasn't enough room for the four of them.

"Well, I can just sit in the back," Amy said.

"Here." Billie tossed the keys to Mike. "I'll ride with her."

"Okie dokie," Mike said.

Amy Lee and Billie climbed into the back of the truck, and they headed to their house. Mike tossed them a blanket.

"I know it was sudden for me to come to your house tonight, but I wanna get to know you more," She smiled.

"Oh, I don't care."

It began to snow and the wind picked up.

"So, do you like school?" Billie asked.

"No, I'm gonna drop out next semester."

"Really? I dropped out last year."

"Oh, so, is the limit like freshman?"

"I guess."

"When's your birthday?"

"February seventeenth."

"Year?"

"1972"

"Oh, so you just turned seventeen?"

"Yep."

"Aw, I should've got you something."

"Don't worry about it. So, yours is like January, right?"

"Mmhm."

"Cool. You're not that much older than me." He nudged her.

"Do you live with your parents?"

"No, they let me and Mike move in with Tre."

"He's only sixteen, and he's living by himself?"

"Yeah. It's kinda weird. His parents did this thing where he can legally be considered an adult, or something like that."

"Oh, yeah, I've heard of that."

"Yep."

They wrapped up in the blanket and waited for them to get to their apartment in silence. When they pulled up, she looked at a regular-looking building. It was gray bricks and very clean.
