The Science Assistant, chapter 4
Frankito's Perspective...
"FFFRRRRRAAAAAAANNNNKKKKIIIIIIITTTTOOOOOO!!!!!" My dad called to me. "YOUR GIRLFREIND'S ON THE PHONE!!!"
"She's not my girlfriend..." I screamed back, as I picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Franky?" I heard a shaky voice asked.
"Rain? Is something wrong?" I asked. She asked if I could come over. She seemed troubled so I went.
When she opened the door to her house, she looked like a mess. The bright, pretty girl I had seem just three hours ago turned into a confused, tear-stained disaster. I walked inside.
"My dad is in a coma..." she said before crying. I just wrapped my arms around her, and let her cry. Eventually we sat on the sofa, her still crying, and me, still holding her.
About an hour later, she fell asleep. Quickly, I found myself slowly drifting off as well.
(Authors Note: I know some of the wording above may not be exactly the same, but I wanted to get part four out, and part three hasn't showed up yet. But it's the same idea, so just bare with me!)
Rains Perspective...
I awoke the next morning, on the couch, trying to figure out what happened. Suddenly it all rushed back to me...Dad in a coma, Mom with him...Franky here... I suddenly had a huge headache...Wait! Franky...Something stirred behind me, and I finally realized I had an arm wrapped around my waist. I hoped to gently remove it, without waking him. No such luck.
"hmmm...." He muttered before opening his eyes. They were just about to slide close, when they suddenly opened to a large porportion. "Oh! Um, Sorry... I guess I kinda fell asleep...." He stuttered, both of us getting pretty embarassed.
"Uh...yeah..." I said, becoming interested in the floor.
We sat there in an akward silence.
Finally the phone rang. I got up and answered it.
"Hello?" I asked stiffling a yawn.
"Rain, are you alright? I'm sorry I didn't make it home last night...I just didn't want to leave your father..." Came the tired voice of my mother.
"Oh, it's fine..." I replied.
"Do you mind if I stay longer?" she asked.
"No, go ahead...I'll come by later...I'm not sure I can now..." I replied softy in the phone.
"Thanks sweety, hang in there...bye.." she said before hanging up.
"Your mom?" Franky asked when I sat back down next to him. I nodded. "I'm so sorry..." He said looking straight into my eyes.
I suddenly realized I was really starting to like Franky...not in the friend sort of way...
"You can go home now if you want..." I said softly. "Get some more sleep..."
"Would you be okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'll probably just sleep more..." I replied honestly.
"Okay, just call if you need anything...don't hesistate," he said before getting up.
He started out the door.
"Franky!" I called to him, before he left the door way.
He turned around to face me.
"Thanks," I said, right before kissing his cheek. He seemed a little shocked.
"No problem..." he said before climbing in his car and driving away.
I pulled myself up into my bedroom, into my bed, and quickly fell asleep.
Frankys Perspective...
"Hello there!" My dad cheerfully greeted me when I walked through our front door.
"Hi..." I muttered.
"Why are you so grumpy?" He asked. "You probably had a great night..."
"What are you talking about?" I asked. "I didn't sleep with her... sorta..."
I wasn't really sure if that would count...
"Of course you didn't..." He grinned stupidly. "I hope you used protection..."
"Dad!" I said loudly, really getting pissed. "I didn't fuck her! I went over there because her dad is in a coma. He was stabbed by some lunatic! Her mother never came back from the hospital! She cried on my shoulder, and we fell asleep on her couch! Thats all!!" I walked into my room, leaving my dad with a shocked look on his face. I stripped into my boxer shorts, and fell asleep on my bed.
Rains Perspective...
I woke up a hour later to my phone ringing.
"Yeah?" I muttered into the reciever.
"Rain? This is Dr.Horan...I'm afraid to say your father isn't doing to well...now would be a good time to come and say good-bye..." He said softly in the phone. He tone said he didn't want to be doing this...but it's part of his job.
I hurrily climbed into my car, and drove to the hospital. I pratically ran into his room, and found my mother holding his cooling hand.
"Mom..." I said weakly. All we did was hug, and pay attention to dad...
Around midnight, it happened...he slowly, but surely died...
When someone very close to me dies, I don't cry, I don't ask for sympathy. I go into a phase where I have no emotion...I get closed off...quiet...I stay like it for a week...about...but who knows how long this will take.
"Like my fathers come to pass,
seven years has gone so fast...
Wake me up when September ends...
Here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again,
becoming who we are..." I quitely sang to myself, driving back from the hospital. It was one in the morning...and he was gone. I would never see him again. Just simply gone.
