A hope called Quinn, chapter 1
It was the first day back at school, and as the school bus seemed to drift off underneath her, Kaity wondered why her life was the way it was.
She wondered why she didn't have a boyfriend, she wondered why she was a C+ student, but, most of all, she wondered why her relationship with her parents was so miserable.
Kaity didn't really get along with her parents. But usually she just avoided them to prevent an argument. However, yesterday morning things got way off the hook.
Kaity was so upset during the 'screaming-match,' that she ran to the bathroom and cried for an hour, meaning she missed the bus and was forced to hitch a ride with her dad on the way to work. Pity he was in a foul mood thanks to the argument.
Flashback
"Kaity if you're still crying in there you're even more pathetic than I thought you were!! Get out of there now before you miss the bus!!!!" screamed Kaity's mum. "You're a bloody idiot, Kaity! A lunatic!! Why the hell are you still crying, you brought this upon your self you selfish little girl!"
Kaity felt tears welling up in her eyes, so she turned up her mp3 player a little louder to comfort her, and help her forget about that past morning's events.
She received some strange looks from the people walking past her to get off the bus as she was still turning up her music even louder; they could probably hear it clearly from where they were standing right now.
She sighed, and stood up to get off the bus.
As Kaity was walking to her locker, she passed a group of girls who were giggling about something. As she continued to walk past, they stopped and turned to face her.
Kaity noticed that they were watching her, and lowered her head so that all her dark brown hair fell in front of her face, so she felt more comfortable. Almost as if she were 'hiding' from the world.
Kaity felt something hit the side of her face, and then something hit her leg. They were throwing food at her.
Kaity hadn't even spoken to half of the attacking girls in her entire life, let alone would even recognize somewhere else that they went to her school, but they still hated her because just about everyone else does.
She hurried off, but when she got to her locker and opened it, it was full of rubbish, which spilled all over the floor and covered all her books. The girls then burst out of the janitor's cupboard, giggling madly. They'd obviously been behind the attack.
Kaity felt defeated, and wasn't sure what to do about the mess.
"Hey, what the hell?? Why did you do that? What did she do to you?! Get out of here!"
Kaity turned, and saw some guy about her age standing there, who'd stood up for her.
"Uhh- who are you?" she asked in her quiet voice.
"Hi, I'm Quinn. I'm new. Who were they? Why did they do that to you?"
"Hi Quinn I'm Kaity, but please call me Kate," She said in her usual polite manner, but still speaking very quietly. "I don't know who they were, or why they did this."
"Oh," He replied. "Well, will you let me lend you a hand cleaning this up?" And without waiting for a reply, sat down his books and started cleaning up.
They'd almost done, when Mr. Sheppard spotted them.
"Mr. Allman, what exactly do you think you're doing out of class? Your first day here and you're already on your way to getting expelled for the second time this year. Explain?"
"Oh, uh, hi Mr...Sheep, was it?"
"Sheppard," He replied, clearly annoyed by Quinn's lack of memory.
"Yeah. Well, you see, some girls played a prank on Kate so I'm helping her clean up this mess."
"Very well then Allman, but hurry." And he stalked off.
"You got expelled? What for?" Kaity asked.
"Uhhhh- yeah kinda. I hit some guy 'cause he stole my guitar."
"Oh."
"Hmm yeah. He got expelled too, for stealing my brand new three thousand dollar Les Paul though. I did eventually get it back through the cops, cause the school didn't see the importance of me getting back my guitar that I worked my friggen ass off for two years to buy, but anyway, what class do you have now?"
"Science with Ms. Crothers."
"Cool me too, we'll go together if that's cool with you."
"Yeah sure, just let me get my books."
For the first time in two years, Kaity felt happy... like there might be hope in her life. That hope's name was Quinn.
She wondered why she didn't have a boyfriend, she wondered why she was a C+ student, but, most of all, she wondered why her relationship with her parents was so miserable.
