Untitled, chapter 3

"Billie Joe!"

He turned around quickly with a grin spread across his face. He'd recognize that beautiful voice anywhere. His eyes caught hers and the entire parking lot was a blur. All he could see was her.

She wore a matching grin and ran into Billie's arms. The two stood for a few moments, just happy to be with each other again. He turned his head to sniff the familar, sweet smell of her hair and turned back to deeply kiss her. She gladly returned it, then pulled away to look at his handsome face... And that bit of smeared eyeliner. Oops.

"Oh Adie. I'm so happy to be home. This tour has been Hell without you," he murmured, sending quiet words and kisses into her ear.

"Yeah, well pregnacy's been a bitch without anyone to complain to. You haven't been here to take care of me," she whispered, feeling Billie's hand graze her stomach.

"Well, my beautiful wife, I'm finally home to be the husband I want to be. Or at least for a little while." He sighed at the thought of leaving again. They had only been married a short time... And he hadn't been there for most of it. Now that his first child was about to be born, he had to be at home. He had to be at least half the man his father was.

"Let's not think about that, hmm?" she said, noticing the disdain on his face. She laced her fingers with his, letting their hands rest together. Still holding onto each other like someone was going to come and rip them apart, they walked to Adie's car. Billie cut in front of his wife and didn't let her drive. He wanted to start taking care of her, he said. Not that she minded. They soon drove off, talking about the tour and the band and happenings at home. They held hands, gave little kisses, gently touched to show how glad they were. The two were truely in heaven.

It didn't take long for Billie to get used to being home. Adie had been very pregnant for the very beginning of his stay but soon after, Joseph Marciano was born. Billie was an unsure father at first but soon learned and became very comfortable with his son. Everything was perfect.

It was a letter that made everything better and worse all at the same time.

It had come in the middle of the regular mail. Not proudly in the front, not secretive in the back. Just in the middle, as though it was no big deal. The handwriting was neat on the front, the careful loops and lines that were part of a natural flow. Billie read the front, wondering how anyone had gotten the address. He checked all over for a return address but found none. Though it crossed his mind, he wasn't worried about it being dangerous. A cry rang out from Joe's room but he heard Adie's footsteps just after and payed it no mind. He ran a finger through the flap and ripped it open. A piece of simple white paper was taken out. He ran his finger over the penciled writing as he read.

------

To my Tweedle Dum,

What did I tell you? I knew you'd go somewhere. I don't just say things for no reason. I had real faith in your boys and you went and proved me right. I saw you in concert. When you came to Boston, I mean. All of you were just like I remembered you. Tre quite the character, isn't he? Its one of my regrets, not knowing him as well as I'd like to. You were fantastic though. Maybe I'm not the best judge... I am a bit biased.

Do you remember me at all? You always said I was the most memorable person you knew. You've been traveling everywhere and I'm sure that's changed. Still, I remember all the times you said you'd remember me forever, love me forever. At the time, it was such a beautiful statement of devotion. Now that I've lived and loved and lost, I realize how unrealistic that was. It just wasn't in the cards.

Of course, I do think of you all the time. I wonder how exactly everything happened... Where you are in life... If you think of me. Enclosed is enough to find me, if you wish to.

All my love, always and forever,
Tweedle Dee

Billie stood with the letter in his hand, reading sections over and over again. This was a girl he had thought he'd lost years and years ago. A girl he'd forgotten as to forget the pain. His eyes gazed at the card he saw sticking out of the envelope, the card he knew would lead him to Tammy. But to take it or not? The same alure that caused his to befriend her in the first place led him to grab the card out and examine it. Boston, Mass... She was still living in Boston? After the promises they made? She was supposed to come back. They were supposed to be together. Now, on top of being confused, elated and upset, he was angry. He folded all of it in half and slipped it in his pocket. No need to think about it now. He put a smile on and ventured into the nursery, finding Adie babbling to Joe in his crib. Billie walked up next to her, slipped one arm around her waist and joined in talking to his new baby boy.
