Affliction, chapter 3

We had spent weeks getting ready for the wedding, but Mike wanted to get married right away. I don't know, but I've been having my doubts about it. I'm only 19! I love Mike, but marriage? It was all too confusing. Lately, I have been throwing up. I don't know why... I don't really feel sick. Mike is worried that I might have the flu, but I'm really feeling ok. It's just in the mornings. Our wedding is the day after tomorrow. It really scares me, knowing that I'm going to be married. I don't know, but I think I'll invite one of my old friends, I mean, she did introduce me to my fiancé... That sounds funny, calling Mike fiancé. I should probably stop writing because the phones ringing...

I slowly leaned over and answered the phone. "Hello?"
"Oh hey, I'm glad you answered the phone, um, I have a surprise for you. I'll be there in five." Mike hung up the phone.

Sitting bewildered, I hung up the phone slowly. In about ten minutes, I heard the door unlock. My eyes darted around the room until they landed on the door, in walked Mike, followed by a former friend, Krysta.
"Hi Shawnee, um, I heard you're getting married on Thursday... " I nodded.
"How did you get here?"
"I flew to get her; I knew she's your friend."

Krysta is my friend... she just has changed so much. The short and stalky girl I once knew doesn't fit the description. Over the 5 years I had seen her last, she has really changed. She went from 'fat' to 'flat.' She had the same size chest, which bothered me, because I had gained some weight from who knows what. When I cut her hair 5 years ago, it was uneven and about 6 inches long. Now, she had managed to grow her thick hair to two feet long, and it was under lighted in bright pink, and in addition, she had bright pink streaks. It was kind of cute. My friend had grown to 5'7". She used to be only 5'4". It was amazing... she looked kind of hot.
"So what kind of dress are you wearing?" I thought about it before realizing I actually knew the answer.
"Mike said it would be okay if I wore the black dress I had my eye on... but I decided against it."
Mike nodded, "She wanted the traditional dress, but with a few 'adjustments'." I smiled pretty big, not telling her what was happening with my dress.
"Hey, Krysta, you want to be a bridesmaid? You'd be the maid of honor, but I gave it to Adrienne." Her smile was huge, it was pretty funny.
"Can I wear a tuxedo?" We all laughed.
"Nope, you get to take your pick of three dresses. I'll show them to you later." She nodded as I sat down on the couch. She followed me and sat down, and Mike decided it would be smart to leave.
"I'll be back in a bit, k? I got some things to work out with the guys... " And he left, without saying a word more. Krysta and I chatted a bit more, and decided to go out for a drink. It wasn't too early. And I was legally an adult. I could pass for an adult... . I think. Krysta looked old enough to drink. She had aged a bit. I can't blame her; her family put her through a hell of a time. I remember once, she had attempted to run away... she was back the next day, because the cops got her. I wrote Mike a note telling him Krysta and I were going out for a drink and we will be back in a couple of hours.

We finally found a place that would let us purchase and consume our drinks. Unfortunately, the drinks were strong, and after a couple, we were hammered. It reminded me of the time we first got stoned together.

"Whoa, it's like everything's square," Krysta said while laughing.
"Yeah. Is this the first time we've been stoned together?" I asked.
"Yeah... this is the first time I've been stoned... whoa, the stars are spelling something for me... " a giggle escaped my mouth. I thought about telling her, I mean, I did say I would...
"Hey, I lied to you earlier... about the girl that likes you," Krysta looked at me like she just realized I was there.
"What... Are you talking about?"
"It's so obvious,"
"What? Who? The only person you and I both know is you... " He mind just blew up.
"You don't want to say it... you want me to confirm it." Her mouth hung opened.
"Oh my god... you know, maybe I thought about you like that..." She slurred. I opened my eyes wide, and spoke slowly,
"I'm not looking for a relationship... "
"I know, that's okay... whoa I'm hot and cold at the same time... " I laughed; it was funny seeing her baked.

We attempted to walk back to Mike's house, but we could barely walk, so we sat down.
"Hey, Shawnee?" I looked at Krysta as she attempted to speak to me.
"Yeah, what's up?"
"You remember the time we got stoned?"
"Yeah, what about it?"
"It was fun, heheh," she laughed dorkily. It was funny to see her laugh like that.
We got up and continued stumbling towards Mike's house. When we got there, Mike was waiting for us. I pointed towards the couch,
"Point your way across!" I laughed and ran towards the couch. Krysta followed, laughing. She plodded her butt onto the couch as I sat there, staring at Mike.
"Mike, you're so pretty" He looked at me like I was crazy.
"You shouldn't have been drinking... its not good for you,"
"You're a hypocrite," I stated.

I knew I shouldn't have been drinking, but I couldn't resist having some fun while Krysta was here.
"I'm sorry Mike; I was tryin' to be like you." Mike's face softened. It was the beer talking, but he knew deep down I meant something like that.
"It's okay. But no more drinking until the wedding, okay?" I nodded. I wasn't going to get hammered on my wedding, either.
I said something inaudible to Krysta, and she laughed, mainly because she didn't understand. We talked, while Mike just watched, shaking his head, and eventually we fell asleep on the couch.
