What do we do now? (Sequel to Being Held Hostage), chapter 2

Mike sat quietly in the chair next to Billie's hospital bed. Tre was sitting across from him in another chair. Mike occasionally meet glances with Tre. He would smile and turn away.

"You guys don't have to stay here, I'm not dying or anything. I just have a bullet in my leg," Billie stated. He smiled at his band mates.

"Dude, we're here for you," Tre said. Mike just nodded.

Billie shook his head, never letting his smile fade, and let his head fall back onto his pillow. The moments of what happened two days ago kept running through his head.

"So what happened to Mandy and the others?" Billie asked without even looking at Mike.

"They went on with their lives," Mike answered him.

"What about the trial?" Tre asked.

"What about it?" Mike answered his question with a question.

"Are they going to it?"

"I don't know. I think Mandy might actually testify in it," Mike said. He never once looked Tre or Billie in the eye.

"What's the matter?" Billie asked. He finally turned his head towards Mike.

"What?"

"You heard me," Billie said. "What's the matter?"

"You miss her?" Tre asked. He too looked Mike in the eyes. Mike had no choice but to answer the questions they were asking.

"Yeah, I guess so," He finally said. "But not in that way, you know? I miss her as a close friend. I mean, even though I've only known her for a couple of days...we've been through a lot together. I mean that was a life changing thing we just went through. And I caused her pain."

"You didn't cause her pain, those jackasses Dan and Hank caused her pain. You were just trying to help her." Billie said.

"I think she's taking a liking to this Hank guy." Mike said. Both Tre and Billie looked shocked.

"Are you serious?" Tre asked.

"Yeah. She actually started flirting with him at the jail." Mike stated. He looked down to the floor.

"Well, everything is gonna be fine in a couple of days. We'll be heading off on tour as soon as I get out of this place, and I'm sure things will get better," Billie said. They all just nodded in agreement. But Mike didn't want to leave. He wanted to make sure Mandy was okay. He wanted to know she was still safe. He just wanted to see her.

"Are you taking the next few days off of college?" Alex asked. She had been on the phone with both Mandy and Sarah for the past few hours now. They were having a three way conversation while taking a break from the drama.

"Yeah, I've already talked to all my professors and surprisingly, they were cool with it," Mandy said. She held the phone to her head as she walked around her dorm room. She picked up clothes off of the floor and placed them in her bin.

"Well, I think I'm gonna still go to class," Alex said. "I'm glad you're okay though."

"Yeah me too," Sarah chimed in. "How's your hand?"

Mandy raised her hand to her face. She looked at the white bandaga wrapped around her entire hand. She saw one spot where the blood was seeping through.

"It's okay. I mean...I'm missing a finger, but it's okay," Mandy answered. "Sorry you guys had to see it in a package."

"Like it was your fault," Alex said with a laugh.

"But still, it could have been any of us in the van," Mandy said.

"I'm glad you're taking this so well," Alex said. "Sarah? You've been kind of quite, are you okay?"

"I'm just taking this harder than you guys. Sorry," She answered. "I don't kow if I can handle this."

"It's okay Sarah. It's understandable," Mandy said. She often thought how hard it must have been to not know if your friend was alive or dead.

"I'm sorry you guys. I have to go," Sarah said before hanging up. Mandy understood, Alex on the other hand was not so understanding.

"I'm sorry Mandy, she's just taking it hard," She said. "But it's not like she went through it or anything."

"Not, it's not her fault. I don't mind if she's more up set than I am, I guess," Mandy said. "You're right, she's just taking it hard. I hope she gets better."

The two finished up their conversation and hung up the phone. Mandy continued to clean up her dorm room when her phone rang again. It was late at night and the only person she knew who would be calling her would either be Alex or Sarah. She answered the phone.

"Hello? Alex?"

"I know where you are."

Mandy's heart stopped. She knew the voice. She'd heard it before. It was the one voice she never wanted to hear again.

"Ex...excuse me? Who is this?"

"I know where you are, and I know you're alone."

Mandy panicked. She ran to the window, pulled back the drapes and looked out. There was no one there.

"You're free! You're not in jail, why are you bothering me?" Mandy cried into the phone.

"You're testifying in Hank's trial are you not?"

"Yes..."

"That means he'll get off and the cops will be after me," Dan said.

"Listen, just leave me alone and everything will be fine. You won't have to worry about me..."

"Listen to me you little bitch! If you testify in that damn trial I'll kill you! I will slit your throat!"

The line went dead.
