What do we do now? (Sequel to Being Held Hostage), chapter 4
Mike pulled up onto the college campus. He parked the car and hurriedly ran up to the first hall he saw. On the door of the hall read Stanley Hall. A girl was coming out of it. Mike stopped her.
"Excuse me..." he started. But the girl stopped him before he could even say another word.
"Oh my God! You're Mike Dirnt!" she cried out. Mike just nodded his head nervously.
"Yes, please, I need your help. Do you know a Mandy?" he asked. He felt stupid not knowing her last name.
"Mandy Smith?" the girl asked. Mike didn't know.
"She's about 5' 7'', short, brown hair..."
"Yeah, Mandy Smith. Yeah, I know her," the girl answered him.
"Thank God. Do you know where her room is?" Mike asked.
"Yeah, it's in my building, Stanley Hall. It's on the first floor, third room from the entrance. Room number 103," the girl answered. Mike thanked her once more before running off into the building. Tre jumped out of the car and ran after him.
Mike came to room 103. He stopped right before doing anything. Tre caught up to him.
"Well? Knock," Tre said. Mike lifted his hand to the door and knocked.
No answer.
"There's something wrong," Mike said.
"Come on, maybe she's still coming to the door," Tre said. Tre knocked on the door himself.
No answer.
Mike couldn't take it anymore. He reached out to the door knob and turned it, opening the door. He walked into the dorm room.
"Are you sure we should be doing this?" Tre whispered.
"Sh..." Mike shushed him.
They walked further into the room. The atmosphere was cold and damp. There was a bad feeling in the air. As if something horrible just happened. Then Mike saw it.
Laying on the bed was Mandy, unconcious. There was a slight gash on her forehead near her hair line. Mike ran to her body, once again hoping she was okay.
"Mandy..." Mike whispered. He brushed back some hair out of her face.
Mandy's eyes opened slowly. She took in Mike's face, believing she was merely dreaming.
"Mike?" she asked.
"It's me. Are you okay?" Mike asked. He helped her sit up straight.
"I...I don't know, I can't really....think straight..." she started. Suddenly everything came flooding back to here. She remembered the words Dan had said into her ears. "No! You have to leave, you have to leave now!"
Mike stared at her. Mandy looked over to Tre who had the same confused look on his face.
"You have to leave now!" Mandy shouted.
"Mandy, what's..." Mike started.
"No! You have to get out now! He's watching us....he'll kill you!"
"Look, I'm not leaving here without you," Mike said. He helped her up to her feet. He started to put his arm around her shoulder to walk her out to the car when she protested.
"No! I can't go with you! I won't go with you! You have to leave," she said over and over again. Mike just got more and more confused.
"Please just explain to me what happened, please," Mike said.
"He came here. He took me out to the courtyard. He told me...he told me he would kill you if he saw you with me. I can't let him kill you!" Mandy started to cry.
Tre came over to her and embraced her. "Don't worry, he won't touch anyone. He won't get near us," he said to her. When he let her go, he stared into her eyes. "Please come with us."
Mandy just stared at him. Then at Mike. She didn't know what to do. All she wanted to do was nod her head and leave with them, knowing she was safe. But she knew Dan was watching them. She knew he would kill Mike and Tre, and even Billie.
"Don't make me choose," she said.
"We're leaving here, and you're coming with us. You don't have to choose," Mike said. He grabbed Mandy by the arm and pulled her towards the door. Mandy didn't fight them. She just went along with them to the car and drove off with them.
Billie had just finished surgery and was resting back in his hospital bed. Mike had stopped in earlier with Mandy and Tre. They told him the whole story of what had happened. He agreed that Mandy should stay indoors from now on, until the trial.
An hour had passed since they had visited Billie. He was nearly asleep when he heard someone coming into his room. It was his nurse. She came in to make the final check of the night before letting him sleep for the night.
"Do you need anything, Mr. Armstrong?" she asked.
"No, thank you," Billie answered. He tried to smile to her, but the pain of his leg was too much. He gave out the weakest smile ever before she left. The room was silent. That is until the door opened again. The lights inside Billie's room turned off. Darkness surrounded Billie. He heard footsteps in the room. He could make out a figure coming closer to him.
"Who's there?" Billie asked. "Hey asshole, who's there?"
Suddenly a hand clapped over Billie's mouth. Billie felt the pressure of someone pushing him down into the bed. His hands went straight to the arm pushing him down. But the person was too strong, and Billie's energy had been spent.
"Hello, Billie."
Billie's eyes shot wide open. It was Dan. Billie gave out a muffled scream. He had to fight this dude off of him in order to get help. But he was in too much pain.
"I'm not going to kill you, Billie. Not now. I have a little project for you to do." Billie struggled under his weight. "I want you and your friends to leave. Get the hell out of this town, never to return. Let the trial go, let Hank serve time for what he did. He wanted to kill Mandy. If he had the chance, he would have. Do what I say."
Billie looked up with his eyes to Dan. He could barely make him out, Billie was starting to slip under again.
"I'll kill her. I'll do it Billie. You might not be so close to her, but Mike is. I know he likes her. If either Mike or Tre find out I threatened you, or you tell the police...I'll cut her up into peices and spread them around this town as if they were water!"
Billie gave out another scream.
"Do what I say. Remember how close you came to losing your friends, don't let it happen again."
Billie felt air rush back into his lungs as Dan let his grip go. He had left the room before Billie even started shouting for help.
He had to tell the others.
"Excuse me..." he started. But the girl stopped him before he could even say another word.
