The day the world ended, chapter 4

Blue's POV:

I woke around fifteen minutes later, with Syd kicking me in the face.

"EH!!!" I screamed. "WHAT'S YOUR CHICKEN SHAKE-UP?!?!"

"Wait... like those salads they used to have at Mikey D's?"

"Yeah..." I got up and ran in squares this time. Syd laughed herself silly. Billie, who I just noticed, was smiling in a dazed way at me. I stopped in my tracks. "Woah, kid, what's up with your yoga?"

"What?" he asked.

"You look awesome, man!" He blushed. I think he likes me... but I'm five years older... too bad...

"Woot woot!" I screamed for no reason whatsoever. "Marshmellows!" Noticing some candy in the nearby sweets store, I ran in and began stuffing them into a bag.

"I can't take you anywhere," sighed Syd as she handed e the money for the marshmellows and wandered over to ask Billie if he wanted some candy.

I ran around the store, getting tired of the many views of sinfully colored candies, and tried to bore myself. It worked. Syd bought Billie some rootbeer candy and led me out of the store. We went on another walk and went towards the pet store.

"Can we go in, please? PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE?!?!?!?!"

"FINE!!!" Syd yelled firmly. She grasped at my arm and led me in like a kid in the candy shop... only we were just there. I googled at all of the little furry, slimy, scaly, and feathery pets, and by thte time we were done, I had ran up my credit card by $500, my limit. I proudly scampered out with my new 7-month-old black lab puppy, Black. I have blue hair, my name is Blue. He has black fur, and his name is Black. Perfect? I think so.
Still Blue's POV:

I ran as fast as I could, with Black coming at me as well. We boinked heads, which hurt like a flying monkey, and then we repeated... several times. Syd shook her head at us. We stopped. Suddenly, the phone rang. If you didn't know, we're at my house...

"Purple!"

"Purple?"

"I was gonna say hello, then yellow, so I said purple," I replied. "Wait, who is this?"

"Zane..."

"Zane? How'd you get my number?"

"Um, I, uh... so what exactly was the math assignment?" I snorted.

"Like I pay attention! Damn, you're a funny one!"
"Uh... what?"

"I said you were funny!"

"Ok... "

"Why'd you call again? Sorry... I have short term memory loss... "

"Homework... "

"Hey... like I pay attention!"

"Yeah..." he chuckled. "Um, you know... this Friday is the dance and I was... um..."

"Hey, Zane?"

"Huh?"

"Wanna go to the Halloween dance with me?"

"Stole the words from me..."

"I know! I do that sometimes. Okay, sorry, but I have to go... the dog is disturbing me, if you know what I mean..."

"Yeah, better push him or her off!"

"I will."

"Bye, Blue."

"Bye, Zane." We hung up. "YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!" I shouted. I jumped up and danced all around. I have a date! My first actual dance date!

Syd's POV:

I watched as Blue pranced around the room. I glanced at my brother. Uh oh. He isn't happy. "What's up, Billie?"

"Nothing," he said defensively.

"Billie?"

"Nothing, I said nothing!"

"BILLIE?" I said firmly.

"NOTHING," he said, matching my voice. "Can you take me home?"

"Okay. Hey, Blue!" She turned around. "I'm heading home. Catch ya later." She waved, then began twirling again. What a nutjob.

We got in the car and began to drive back home.

"What's up, really?" I tried again.

"It's... a girl..."

"Who?"

"It rhymes with that."

"Who rhymes with... Blue?!" I almost slammed on my brakes, but remembered I wasn't playing a video game.

"Maybe..."

"What's wrong about her?"

"She has a guy now! Don't you get it? I'm not her 'main man' anymore!" He was talking about Blue and his little inside joke. She called him that because she pretended that she didn't know any other guys, so he was her main man, literally.
"Why?" I asked.

"I just told you."

"I know... but why would they be so mean?"

"They're girls. Almost every time a girl from their group, now every girl in their class, sees me, they laugh and point, they call me a wimp, a loser." He looked down at his knees and didn't say anything the rest of the way home.

When we got back home, I gave him the longest hug ever in the world records of longest hugs. He felt only a little better after it.

I felt horrible that I couldn't help him. Little did I know, the worst was yet to come. For both of us. Just a little bit after Billie's tenth birthday.

Blue's POV: *A year later, at Billie's birthday party*

I eargerly awaited the opening of my present. I hope he'll like it! There he goes.... he picked up the box... he's tearing off the paper...

"Oh! Thanks, Blue, for the..." he trailed off. "Snickers bar?"

"Open it up!!!" I almost screamed. He opened it.

"WOAH!!!" he yelled. "Guitar picks, strings, and stickers!!! COOL!!!"

"BLUE Cool, duh!" I replied.

"But wait... I don't have a guitar..." Billie looked down sadly. His and Syd's dad, Andy, gave me a thankful smile.

"Hey, little man, guess again." Then, with a hacking, racking cough, he handed over to Billie the prettiest, most beautiful, wonderful electric guitar I've ever seen. It's light blue, and BOOTiful!

"D-D-Da-Daaaaadd!!!" Billie was lost for words. He was so excited, you could see it on his face, wipe it off, eat it for breakfast, and still have a year's worth of meals, you know, three a day. His eyes were wide open, so was his mouth, and he just stared at it.

*An hour later*

Billie's butt's probably getting sore now. He's been oogling at that guitar for a long time now. He hasn't spoken or practically breathed yet. I got impatient, so I scootched to him and shook him by the shoulders.

"BILLIE, THERE'S AN ALIEN ON YOUR HEAD!!!"

"Mmhmm, okay, invite him to dinner then," he answered in a dazed voice.

*A while later*

Finally he had come back to reality. He slapped all of my stickers onto the amazing guitar and stuck the picks between the strings.

"Whatcha going to name your guitar, sport?" his dad asked him with a cough.

"I think... I think Blue."

"What?" was my comment. "Is it after me?"

"Well... yeah," he replied softly. "And because it's blue." I hugged him tightly. Suddenly, we heard a crash very near to us. We turned to look at his dad. He had fallen and wasn't moving. We checked... no pulse. He was gone.

See, their dad had been diagnosed with esophogus cancer, but the doctors said it would go away on its own. It apparently didn't, because now...

Syd and Billie hugged each other, and eventually went to Syd's room. I sat on the other side of the door. For hours, the two cried. Cried and cried and cried. That's the way I was when my dad died. So sad... I broke down and cried, too. Andy was gone. For good.

Syd's POV:

The best Dad in the universe, the best parent I ever had, gone. And on Billie's birthday too. Why was this happening to me? For a second I almost felt like running to the bathroom and cutting again, letting my pain run out through warm blood. But I couldn't I had Billie to take care of now. I sob caught in my throat, and I felt sick. We'd been crying for hours. Blue had gone home, and only the 3 of us knew Dad was dead. I couldn't bring myself to call anyone. Not even an ambulance. Finally, I forced myself off the bed. Billie continued to cry, his face hidden in a pillow, and I crawled over to the phone by Dad's bed and picked it up.
