Teenagers, chapter 2
"Excuse me, m'am," said the cop.
"Yes, officer..." I said ever so politely. The cop turned off his car and came out so he could talk to me more closely. I knew I was in deep shit then.
"Are you," he glanced at the piece of paper he held in his hands, which seemed like it had a picture of me on it, but it was too hard to tell due to the darkness. "Sterling Jade Armstrong?"
"Depends..." I replied with attitude.
"Now listen, I need to know if you are. It's a very important matter and I need to know."
"Why is it so important?"
"Just come with me, alright? I need to take you downtown." shit.....
"WHY?" He didn't answer me and took me exactly where he said he would... downtown.
*at the station*
A big burly man came walking in to the office that I was seated in. He looked as if he hadn't gotten any sleep at all for the past week because he had the darkest circles under his eyes. The darkest I had ever seen, at least. He also had dark black hair slicked back along with his mexican styled mustach.
"Sterling, it is?" he asked.
"Like I said before, it depends..... sir."
"Like the cop said before," well now he's just mocking me! I thought. "Are you Sterling Armstrong?"
"No." Sure I was lying, but could they really put me in jail? Juvie, maybe, but surely not jail.
"Listen, I've got a picture of Sterling right here, and she looks a lot like you. See?" he showed me the picture, and sure enough, I was looking into the face of a young girl with sterling eyes, dark brown curly hair, and the look of innocene. I was looking into the face of Sterling Jade Armstrong.
"Okay, I'm her, but honestly, I didn't steal anything, I didn't vandelise anything. I was at home, and then I went out for....... a run. Yeah, a run." I tried my best, I really did.
"I know you didn't steal anything. I was just trying to get something out of you. Anyway, I'm deeply sorry about this, but.... listen kid, I know it's gonna be hard for ya, but........ your mother's passed away."
Shocked. That's it. I was absolutely shocked. Not sad shocked. Just.... shocked.
"What? How? When?" That's all I could get out of my nearly speechless mouth.
"When you ran away, she went looking for you and got in a car crash. She got hit by a drunk driver. We though we should place you with member of your family, but realised you don't have any other relitives."
"So... I'm an orphan now?" I knew the answer. I just knew it. I would have to go live in a foster home with complete strangers. My father didn't care about me at all, so I just KNEW he wouldn't come and get me. He dosn't love me. I had tears in my eyes, but not becuase of the accident. But because I knew that no one loved me. Not a soul.
"Not quite..." said the officer.
"Yes, officer..." I said ever so politely. The cop turned off his car and came out so he could talk to me more closely. I knew I was in deep shit then.
