Something About Billie, chapter 1

(This story starts in 1991; I'll sometimes remind you of the time throughout the story otherwise, you can do the math.)
There's something about Billie. Something that makes him the closest thing to perfection you could ever find. Whether it's the sound of his voice, how he plays guitar or the way he hides his face when he's made an idiot of himself; I don't know. But I know it's why all the girls go after him. Do NOT think that I'm 'in love' with him or anything, he's one of my best friends, if not my best friend. He remembers my first steps, first words... he evens know all the guys I've had crushes on. It is kind of weird though, he's 19 and I'm 14, but I guess he's more like a 4th brother.
Yea, I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters - a big family, like Billie's. Sean's still crawling, Jon's beginning to ask about sex and Craig's 21, the 'Man of the house' since my dad left. Carly is Craig's twin and moved to New York a few months back and Claire, to be honest; I don't where the hell Claire is. So it's pretty much the whole family friends thing - The Armstrong & The Keller's. Andy was like a 2nd father to me, vice versa for my dad and Billie. But my mom, she never seemed to like the Armstrong's; she could lie about it, sure, but I thought it was really Billie Joe she wasn't too fond of. In fact, once my dad left, she never went to see Ollie that much. Call me crazy but I don't think she even cared that much when Andy died.
Oh, when Andy died, it was terrible. Whenever I saw Billie he had red eyes from where he rubbed them hard so it didn't look like he'd been crying. I was too young to understand at the time but all I remember is not seeing Billie Joe, Ollie or anyone for months. A couple of years later, my Dad left. You're probably thinking, 'Oh, he abandoned the family,' but it's not at all like that. You see my dad had a stroke.
He lost his speech impediment and use in his right arm and leg. No one ever talks too much about it, like no one ever talks about how Andy died. My dad always said he wanted Billie Joe to marry either one of my sisters or myself and everytime my Mom would say something like 'Rogeè, the girls don't wanna marry him!' (My father's name is Roger but everyone calls him Rogeè, I don't know why.) But I always like the thought of marrying Billie Joe... Mrs Sadie Armstrong...
"Sadie?" a familiar voice called up the stairs.
"Yeah?" I replied walking down the stairs to see Billie Joe, obviously making himself at home, stretched out over the sofa. He always let himself in, always. He was the only one outside the family who knew where the spare key was, under the flowerpot.
"Craig not home yet? Am I early again? Ah man, I guess that means I gotta waste some time with you," he sighed. I tried to give him such an evil glare but we just ended up smirking at each other. We both knew he came round an hour early before Craig comes home from work so we could hang out.
"Oh, shut up, you ho," I said with my arms crossed waiting for his, most likely, pathetic comeback.
"I the ho? No, you the ho!"
"I the ho?"
"Yeah, you the ho!"
(I told you so, pathetic.)
"Shut up, ho!" I exclaimed whipping his baseball cap off and beating him down with it.
"Okay, okay," Billie Joe said snatching his baseball cap placing it immediately back on his head, "I'm the ho, Okay?"
"You have hat hair," I told him as I kneeled down to plug the Nintendo in, turning around to see a frown from Billie.
"Billie, I don't get this, what buttons am I meant to use?" I asked with the most puzzled look on my face. Billie took his attention away from the TV screen to help me with my 'controller problem.'
"Look, it's easy you just-"
"Ha! Gotcha!" I yelled in his face after crashing into his car causing it to flip over and set fire. He didn't stick his tongue out at me, call me a bitch or even shove a pillow in my face, he did something completely different from what I expected. He leaned in and he, he kissed me.
He planted a warm, soft kiss upon my lips. What? That can't be right, can it? I felt his tongue trying to push past my lips and with the click of two fingers I pulled away. Billie Joe just began to concentrate on the game again, avoiding any eye contact with me. What the hell just happened? I don't understand, he is kidding, right? I looked at his face to see if there was any sign of a smirk in the corner of his mouth. There was no smirk. Actually, he looked sort of embarrassed and... hurt? Right then, my brother came rushing through door, probably for no reason. He just always rushed himself.
"Craig! How come your home early? Billie asked in a higher voice than usual, it's almost as if he thought that Craig had seen which is impossible.
"I got off work early," Craig explained searching for Mom's car keys. "Hey Sadie! You alright?"
"Yea, I'm fine," I almost whispered. Why was I so nervous?
"Coming, Kiddo?" Craig asked Billie, obviously not hearing me, waggling Mom's car keys at him and slapping him on the back.
"Uh, yeah," he answered even though Craig was already out the front door. "Uh, I'll see ya soon, Sadie."
He said the last part so quietly; I almost didn't hear it at all. And I'm pretty sure he has no intention of seeing me soon either. I chucked the controllers on the floor in frustration. Why did Billie Joe kiss me?
