Starved to death in the Land of Plenty, chapter 2
*Still Mikey's POV*
My eyes snapped open in fright of the shrill caw of a crow that flew over head. I sighed and rubbed my eyes. The faint groans of sleep came from up top as Taryn stirred. I leant back on the tree's trunk. Blinking a few times, I studied the surroundings closely. It looked exactly the same as New Jersey. Exept everything looked either burnt, dead or abandoned. I stood up slowly. My nose wrinkled at the stench of dried blood. The memorys of the previous night came flooding back. Shaking my head, I poked Taryn in the side.
"Good morning" I yawned, "I think."
Her eyes fluttered open, "Mikey?" she said groggily, "Isattayoo?"
I couldn't help but smile at her. "Yeah," I said and lifted her down off the tree. A loud yawn escaped her and she ruffled her hair. I noticed threw her thick hair what looked like large black circles around her eyes. "Taryn?" I said kneeling down to her level.
"Yeah mikey?" she sighed. I lifted her chin up and her hair fell from her face.
"Mikey since when do you wear THAT much eyeliner?" she giggled.
"I....I...err," I suttered in dis-belief and rubbed my eyes which sent my glasses askew.
Taryn smiled and straightned them. I used my thumb to try and rub the black stuff off of Taryn's face. It wouldn't lift, as if it was the colour of the skin. Also her face was rather pale. "Your as cold as ice Taryn," I said as I stood up. Her face looked puzzled. "I think we're not oursel-".
I was cut off by a blood-curdeling scream. Taryn looked at me, eyes wide then to a rather abandoned looking house. I looked to but felt her hug me tight. "Mikey...can we go?" she asked, her voice seeped with panic. I didn't answer her. I removed her arms from around me gently and stood up. Taryn grabbed my hand but kept silent. We walked up to the front porch as another scream was herd. I swallowed hard and opened the door. We were swept with the foul stench of mould, flesh and just a hint of asbestos. The screams became more frequint as we explored the house.
"I know that scream" I herd Taryn mutter as she let go of my hand.
"Taryn..." I trailed of as she disapeared behind a door. I dashed after her. The screams slowly turned to sobs and cries of pain. I peeked out from behind the door. The sight that met my eyes shocked me so much that it still haunts me to this day.
"Gerard!" I screamed and ran toward him. Taryn was knelt infront of him, stroking his long black hair. Her eyes were filled with tears I fell to my knees on the oppisute side of him to Taryn.
He obviously hadn't noticed us. There were three clean bullet holes in his shirt. I pushed his hair back so I could see his face.
"Gerard," I said in quiet whisper. Tears ran down my face as he looked at me. His eyes looked so empty and scared.
"Mi..Mik.Mikey?" he stuttered and reached out his hand. Hissing at the pain he gently held my face. "I thourght I lost you," he muttered. A week smile crept across his face. Taryn had stopped stroking Gerard, she was just sitting there with a tear stained face.
"We gotta get," I started as Ii ripped his shirt open, "these bullets....out?" His chest was bare yet there was alot of blood.
"Mikey," Gerard said as his hand dropped from my face, "I can't...take this." I shook my head sending a few tears flying.
"Taryn help me," I said as I lifted him up off of the floor. Taryn snapped back to reality and took one of Gerard's shoulders.
"Ta..Taryn?" Geard said looking around.
"Yeah it's me," She smiled through the tears.
We carried him to a bed in the corner. It didn't look very clean but it was all we had. Gerard hissed further at the pain as we let him on the bed. Taryn and I knelt next to the bed as Gerard screamed at the pain. I leant against the wall and pulled Taryn next to me.
"We have to wait it out," I said trying to ignore my brothers pain. Taryn just nodded and closed her eyes. I looked over at Gerard one last time. A small trickel of blood ran down the side of his mouth. "It's almost over Gerard," I said taking his hand in mine. He bit his lip and nodded feebily.
After what felt like hours Gerard had stopped bleeding and had fallen asleep, still grasping my hand. Taryn was asleep aswell. I gently lifted my arm from around her shoulders and layed her down with her head on my lap so she was at least some-what comfortable. I didn't know what to do. We were stuck in some weird place with no sense of direction. All we had was each other.

**Taryn's P.O.V**
And thats how I got here. It has been three years since that night and I still can't sleep at night becasuse of it. Just the thourght of a loved one in such pain as that is just so terrible...I can't describe it.
