Affections, chapter 1
Isn't life strange. In just a moment, just one tiny second, you can be shown feelings you never had before. Or that you had all along, but had never known about. Or maybe you knew you had them but wanted to ignore them for the sake of, oh so many, other people. But in one moment that's what happened to me.
Another awards ceremony. Another endless parade of nameless faces, and faceless people. We always stuck close together at these places, clinging to the people we knew like drowning sailors clinging to life floats in a sea of interviewers and camera flashes.....
"And the award for best video goes to.....Green Day for Wake Me Up When September Ends! Give 'em a big hand folks!"
Wearing smiles to please the crowds, and still nobody can tell they're false, they don't know how tiring this life can be. Would they care if they did?
And then its another photo shoot afterwards, vision dizzy at the corners, cause, whaddaya know, a free bar! Clutching the award, grinning and pulling faces, arms around each other, step out of the way to let somebody else take their turn. Its all so familiar, but so alien at the same time.
We're separated in the crush. I'm glancing around to find a familiar gaze, a familiar face among the endless swirl of strangers.... and then I see them.. those glorious dark eyes... I'd never seen how beautiful they were before... and that perfect mouth creases into an equally perfect smile, crinkling those eyes at the corners, giving them a mischievous spark. And that wonderful slim dark frame heads towards me, other half faithfully in tow behind. And one thought is in my head
I'm in love,
Shit.
