Slap In The Face, chapter 23
Once I had finished cooking, and had gotten dressed I spent the rest of the hour before they would arrive trying to occupy myself with Bella instead of thinking about jumping on the phone and cancelling this dinner. I felt like I was about to walk the Green Mile not have a dinner with Green Day.
At 5 on the dot the doorbell rang and I answered it, I told Bella I had some friends coming over and she was to play in her room until I called her out.
They came bearing gifts a bottle of extremely expensive champagne and a large bunch of flowers.
"SURPRISE" exclaimed Tre earning quizzical stares from Mike and BJ
"I knew you were coming Frankie" I said rolling my eyes
"Yeah but we brought you a surprise" he stated presenting me with the flowers and champagne.
"Thank you guys" I said hugging and kissing them directing them into the lounge while I put the flowers in water and chilled the bottle.
"Wow this is actually in a bottle not a cask" I exclaimed jokingly.
"Yeah were up market now, nothing but the best" laughed Billie Joe
I sat down with them and decided that it was time to reveal my news
"So what is your big news?" asked Mike
"Umm its probably better if you see it, but you all have to promise not to be mad and that you won't let things get weird because I didn't tell you all before now" I blurted.
"Ok we promise" said Billie Joe
"Scouts honour" added Tre
"Just hurry up eh Lyd I'M starving" groaned Mike
"Ok" I sighed walking up the stairs to bring Bella down.
I walked into her room to see her playing with one of her dolls and she turned around
"Mummy, I hungry" she exclaimed
"I know baby, we're gonna eat now but first you have to meet my friends"
"Otay lets go" she said gesturing for me to pick her up
I sat her on my hip and walked down the stairs towards the lounge room.
"Guys I want you to meet Isabella my daughter" I said quietly
They turned around to see the beautiful almost 2 year old, who had dark brown curly hair and looked exactly like me except for one thing those large green orbs which gave away her parentage on first site.
They stared with their jaws almost hitting the floor before Bella broke the silence with a large "ELLO" we all laughed nervously before they approached me and Bella
Tre was the first to talk "Hello gorgeous I'm your uncle Tre and guess what I have a few birthdays and Christmases I need to buy you presents for"
"PWesents" exclaimed Bella her eyes gleaming
"Yes sweetie for your birthday that's coming up" I said trying to save my daughter from being too spoilt
"No Your uncle Mike has a birthday, Christmas and christening to make up for" replied Mike
I sighed defeatedly "Guys its really not necessary"
"Yes it is, how much stuff have you brought for our kids Lyd let us return the favour"
"You all gonna buy me pwesents" exclaimed Bella giggling and hugging them.
I shook my head trying to hold back the laughter
Then she went to Billie Joe and poked him in the leg "What bout you" she asked
He scooped her up and said "Me too munchkin but first I think your mummy wants to serve us all dinner." Seeing them so close together almost made me burst out in tears but I composed myself and went to the kitchen to prepare
"Can you keep her amused for five minutes while I serve up"
"No problem" Tre called out listening to whatever tale my daughter was enchanting them with.
When they came into the kitchen BJ was giving her a piggy back ride and Bella was giggling.
We sat down and ate, with Mike and Tre constantly giving me knowing looks and BJ intently hanging on every word his daughter said. After dinner I put Bella to bed and went into the lounge where Mike had cracked open the champagne
"Why didn't you tell us" asked Mike
"I don't know, I just couldn't" I replied sounding stupid even to myself
"Is Chris the father and if so why aren't you married already" asked Tre angrily
"He's not the father and were not married because I'm not ready and probably won't ever be ready after what he said, we started dating after I got pregnant"
"What did he say" asked Bj
"Nothing he just wanted me to move and we fought and he said some stuff about Bella that I cant forgive him for and I don't want to talk about it anymore" I replied
Another awkward silence before Billie Joe pipped in with "Ohh look at the time, Tre and Mike isn't it time you went back to the hotel"
"What? What about you?" asked Tre, Mike elbowed him
"Oh Oh yeah we um gotta go Lyd thanks for dinner, we'll just let you two talk" said tre
"But I, oh ok" I said defeatedly hugging them as they left
Billie Joe looked at me blankly
"So I guess we need to talk eh" I whispered
"Yeah Dia, I think we have a lot to talk about" then surprisingly he began to sob and dropped to his knees grasping my hands
"Oh Dia I"m so sorry, I was such and asshole and because of that my daughter hasn't had a father"
I pulled him to his feet and wiped his eyes
"Listen to me BJ, I was the bitch I didn't want you to know, I kept you away from her and I feel so horrible" I cried
"No No No Dia I was such an idiot"
I put a finger to his lips "Shhhh We can play the blame game for the rest of our lives or we can work this out and be good parents to our daughter, we have to try and re-build our friendship and..."
