Slap In The Face, chapter 4
Its amazing how relationships change so fast and how capable people are of ignoring how wrong things are just because they feel good.
Over the next 6 months one of the only relationships in my life i was ever sure of became uncertain and confusing. Billie Joe and I slipped back into our old friendship routine easily and the embarrasment slipped away within a week, the lust on the otherhand only became more intense. I went from best friend to secret lover in the blink of an eye, and it took me 3 months to finally work up the courage to ask the question that had been burning in me for a long time.
We were getting dressed after our latest escapade when I asked
"BJ what are we?"
He went silent for a while before answering "We're best friends"
I snorted and said "ohh is this what best friends do, hmm funny I haven't done this with Mike or Frankie yet."
"Whats your problem?" he asked
"What is this Billie we're meant to be friends"
"well I suppose its friends with benefits dia"
"FRIENDS WITH BENIFITS" I screamed angrily
"sorry that was a stupid thing to say" he said
I sighed "I've got a boyfriend BJ and this is not right"
He pulled me to him and said "Your having fun but aren't you" I nodded mutely "And you and jock boy are not very serious yet, so we are not doing anything wrong."
He went to push me onto the bed but I stood back up "Fine but once either of us is in a serious relationship its stops ok"
"fine it's a deal" he said before pulling me into another kiss
"I just got dressed BJ" I laughed swatting his hands away from the buttons of shirt.
He ran his hand through his hair and looked at me innocently "But I don't want you to be dressed."
"Well too bad look at the time your going to miss the show and I'm going to be late for work.....again" I grabbed my keys and dragged him out the door
"I'm driving" I said
I was working as a bar tender at Sammy's a local bar where the boys played every Friday night. It was good because I got the chance to sell merch and tapes for Green Day on my breaks and the tips were always great. Also it gave me a chance to spend some time with Shane my wonderful attentive, sweet, non jealous, athletic, smart, funny boyfriend who I was stupidly cheating on with my best friend.
The guys played a great set and had even more of an audience then the week before. They were gaining a fan base and really rapidly. Sammy the owner always thanked me for begging him to let them play, because business was booming for him.
At the end of my shift I bumped into him.
"Hey boss" I said
"Hello princess have I told you what a genius you are lately" he exclaimed
"Now you have Sam"
He handed me 50 dollars and I went to give it back "no no Lydia the place is packed and its all because of you and those friends of yours"
"Speaking of friends I think there's a young man looking for you"
I turned around and saw Shane beaming at me
I ran towards him, jumped into his arms and kissed him
"eh hem" coughed tre
Shane put me down and I turned around to see them behind me
Mike was laughing and Billie Joe rolled his eyes at me
"So do you think you've recovered your breath from that or do you need more time" said tre
I laughed and jumped him "You're gonna need air now Frankie"
He ran out of the room screaming "She's gonna kill me ahhhhh" so I chased me to the car and cornered him "so are you going to apologise for being a dickhead"
"Im sorry Im sorry" he whimpered
"its ok" I gave him a hug and the guys followed us out
"Hey so do you need a ride home" asked Mike
"Nah its ok Shane is taking me later"
"Ok then look after her jock boy" said mike giving him the glare
"I always do see you guys" he said as he wrapped his arms around me
After the drove off we jumped in his car and drove down to a local park
We walked to a park bench and sat down
"He doesn't like me very much does he Lyd"
"Who, Mikey? He does, he does , he was only joking before" I told him
"No not Mike or Tre, Billie Joe"
"Oh um he doesn't hate you , its just BJ and I have been friends for a long time he's a bit wary of guys I date" I said trying to convince him
"No I think its more then that"
It was lucky that it was so dark out because I felt the colour drain from my face, oh fuck he knows I thought to myself
"But it doesn't matter you're the one who has the like me anyway babe" said Shane as he kissed the top of my head and pulled me to him
"That's exactly right and you know how much I like you shaney" I whispered to him
I felt so relieved and relaxed a little bit, content that for now I could have my perfect boyfriend and BJ at the same time.
