A Green Day Story, chapter 10
"Ah... what a day." I groaned, plopping down on the couch in Billie's living room. Ashley sat down on my lap. I groaned again and pushed her off, lying down on the couch. "I just want to fall asleep."
"Don't fall asleep on my damn couch, woman." Billie Joe teased, sitting on the floor and leaning against the couch. I rolled my eyes and smiled.
Kyle settled into an armchair, and closed his eyes, sighing.
"Fucking hell...why am I so goddamned tired?" He asked, looking at the clock by the front door.
"It's almost midnight?!" Ashley squeaked, wide eyed.
"Hm... well, we did spend forever at that damned restaurant." I muttered, stretching my arm out, attempting to get a hold of the remote control. Billie Joe snatched it as my fingers had just barely brushed against it, and turned on the TV.
"Did Mike go to Tre's house?" Billie Joe asked, flipping through the channels.
"I think so... " Ashley replied, picking the dirt out from under her fingernails.
"Okay. Cool... " Billie stretched his neck and settled on a South Park marathon. I laughed, remembering when Ashley and I used to constantly quote parts from this show... apparently she remembered as well, for she glanced at me. We both fell into a giggling fit, and I sat up.
"Good times, good times... " Kyle said, sighing happily, as if reading our minds. Billie held a look of confusion for a few moments.
"Hey. Let's spend tonight here at Billie's!" I said, hugging Billie's neck.
"So, now you think you can invite yourself to spend the night here, huh?" Billie raised an eyebrow, and looked up at me.
"Yup!" I smiled and released his neck.
I awoke to find myself still lying on Billie Joe's couch. I yawned and stretched, eyeing the clock. It was eight o'clock sharp.
"Ugh... " I moaned. I am so not used to waking up so early. I looked around the room, noticing Kyle was nowhere to be seen. Cautiously, I scooted off the couch and walked to the kitchen. Outside, in the dim light of a winter morning was the silhouette of a man. Becoming curious, I walked over to the sliding glass door and opened it. Stepping out into the crisp morning air, I breathed in and sighed. Leaving the door open, I walked over and noticed Kyle sitting, for some reason, on top of the wooden fence. I stepped into the grass, feeling the cold dew on my bare feet, and rolled up the bottom of my jeans to keep them from getting too wet. As I neared him, he seemed to notice me. He jumped off his perch on the fence and walked up to me.
"Good morning." He said quietly, placing a hand on my shoulder. I smiled and looked up at him.
I replied, and we went over and sat on the chairs in the backyard. We pushed them to be facing away from the door, which still stood ajar, and looked into the undisturbed, calm waters of the pool.
"You're hair is a mess." He chuckled, and looked at me with a cool air about him. I smiled sweetly and met his gaze, our eyes locking, and we just looked into each other's eyes in silence. A slight breeze stirred our thought, but out gaze never broke.
I had no idea what was coming over me. Here I was, sitting out here next to my best friend, staring into those deep blue pools of his eyes, and my heart began pounding a mile a second. He leaned in a little and a sly smile appeared on his calm face.
"Amy... you look so beautiful this morning. You always have... " He whispered to me. I could feel his warm breath on my face, we were so close. I took in a sharp intake of air, and my heart pounded harder and harder.
"Kyle... " I whispered back, speechless. He leaned in even further. I closed my eyes and felt his warm lips close over mine. He put and arm around me and deepened the kiss. At that moment, all sense left me, and I put my arms around him. As his tongue begged entry into my mouth, I snapped back to reality.
Pushing him away, I shook my head, and forced back the tears. This wasn't right! I loved Billie! I couldn't believe what I had done... what if Billie Joe saw? Then he would be so hurt! I would feel awful... and we could never be together! He couldn't ever know...
..But what I didn't seem to notice, was that Billie Joe DID see... he was standing, gaping and wide-eyed, in the door I had to carelessly left open. His heart torn in two... he didn't seem to notice the horror in my face, the sadness in my eyes, my whole body shaking, my head shaking.
"Kyle... this isn't right!" I yelped. "I don't love you, I don't have feelings for you... we can't do this!"
"What... ? Amy? Why did you kiss me then?" He asked, bewildered.
"I didn't fucking kiss you! You came onto me!" I screeched. Just then, I heard a loud banging noise, and looked behind me to see the last thing I wanted to see at this moment.
Billie Joe stood in the doorway. Tears running down his cheeks, his hand in a fist, arm outstretched, and I could tell he had just punched the glass door. A look of utter sadness and hatred mixed in his glassy green eyes. My eyes widened in horror as he shook his head at me, and walked inside.
My stomach lurched. I felt like throwing up. There we go. I did it. I broke Billie's heart. I knew how much he loved me... I knew we weren't dating or anything, but I loved him too much to care.
"Fucking bastard!" I screamed and slapped Kyle in the face so hard it left a hand print. He winced and looked at me with confusion in his eyes. "You want to know why I fucking don't like you?! 'Cause I love Billie Joe! And now you made me hurt him! You have no shame, you fucking idiot! I HATE YOU!!!" I screamed as loud as I could, my face turning red. I could hear the neighbors dog s barking. I didn't care. I had to get to Billie.
I ran towards the open door and fell onto the kitchen floor, sobbing. I had to find Billie. I had to make all this right again... he has to know how I feel. He must. It's now or never...
