A Green Day Story, chapter 5
"Ugh..." I mumbled groggily and sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I stretched out and looked around. Billie Joe, Tre, Mike, and myself were scattered around the room. I had woken up, but the rest were sleeping. I looked out the window and noticed it was still dark outside. I then looked to a clock on the wall and saw the time. Five thirty AM. Shit, so early. I stood up and walked to the front door. Opening it quietly, I looked down to see my bag of stuff on the front doorstep. I grabbed it and headed over to the couch, trying desperately not to awaken the guys. I sat down and dug through my bag, taking out a black Pink Floyd tshirt, baggy blue jeans, a studded belt, my black converse high tops, and black socks. I took all this and searched for a bathroom and changed. Then I quietly came out and looked down at everyone. Just the same as I'd left it except...Billie Joe wasn't there.
I shrugged and put my dirty clothing into the bag and sat back down. A few moments later, I heard some noises from another room. I folloed them into the kitchen and looked around. Nothing...I began to think I was hallucinating when I heard another sound from a door on the wall to my right. Then a crash. I ran and opened the door to see Billie Joe lying at the foot of some stairs, entangled in random objects that fell from a box from somewhere. I just started laughing and ran down to help him.
"You know...you are very graceful!" I teased and picked up a frisbee.
"Thank you very much. I'll ignore the sarcastic part of that and just get this crap off me." He laughed and we both worked at getting the junk off of the floor and back into the box.
"Heh...so, what're you doing in the basement at...five forty-five AM?" I asked him, plopping down on a couch he had in his basement and looking at his guitar.
"Nothing...I was going to practice my guitar." Billie Joe said quickly.
"You play guitar this early?!" I gasped and looked at him like he was a freak. I knew he was lying.
"Whatever. I was going to write a song..." He said, this time truthfully.
"Oh, c'mon. You had to lie about that?!" I scoffed and walked over to him. Then walked over to his guitar, picked it up, and plugged it into the amp.
"Because either way I forgot the damn words that were once in my head." Billie Joe replied angrily. He sat down. With the plugged in electric guitar in my hands, I began playing the notes to a song I had written.
"I left without saying goodbye, but I understand how you must've felt, betrayed, alone, and I'm sorry, but it was something that had to be done..." I sang with tear welling up in my eyes. It was a song I wrote on the plane on our trip here. It was about leaving everything behind back at home...
I could tell, even though my eyes were focused on my hands racing across the guitar strings, that Billie Joe was watching me. When I finished, I looked up at him. He clapped lightly and smiled sweetly at me.
"That was beautiful." He told me as I whiped tears from my eyes. "Yet very...random..."
"You should know what it's about." I said and put down the guitar and sat down beside him.
"Yeah, your old friends, old life." He said and laid down, resting his legs on my lap. I ignored this and sighed. I was tired. Eventually Billie Joe fell asleep on the couch. I gently pushed his legs off me in attempt to not awaken him then quietly walked back up into the kitchen. I peeked into the living room to see if Mike and Tre were still asleep and they were. I nodded and walked to a sliding glass door, apparently leading into the backyard. I opened it carefully and stepped out into the crisp, cold night air. I then closed the door silently and looked around me. The sun was starting to come up and the sky was a cerulean color. The backyard was pretty big, it had a big pool and plenty of grassy areas. There was a garden I assumed belonged to his mom, and a toolshed. I walked over to the pool and took off the shoes and socks I had put on half an hour ago and sat down at the pool's edge. I sighed as I slipped my feet into the cold water. I closed my eyes, then opened them again, and looked up to the sky where the stars were fading away and the dark blue was paling. I smiled and laid back, my feet still in the calm pool water, and looked up to the sky. I remembered one time when I was with my best friends, Kyle and Ashley, back home in Miami.
*Flashback:
"Amy...isn't it beautiful?" Ashley asked, laying back onto the cold sand. The ocean seemed so calm, as if never disturbed by mankind. The only footsteps on the beach were Kyle's, Ashley's, and mine.
"Yes, it is..." I replied, staring out at the horizon. The sun was starting to rise, only a sliver was visible thus far, and the light emitting from the sun made the ocean water sparkle. The sky was pale near the sun, and became darker as it went further from the sun. The sand was cold from the night, the shore undisturbed by anyone but us. We were at our own little sanctuary, and undiscovered piece of the beach that no one went to but us. It was our special place...
"Let's make a pact, no matter what, even if one day we are scattered all over the world when we're older, we will all remember this place, and come back to it someday." Kyle said, his gaze leaving the sunrise and onto Ashley and myself.
"Deal." Ashley said.
"Ditto." I smiled and leaned against him, and put my arm around Ashley so she could lean on me. My two best friends in our one special place...
End Flashback*
I whiped a tear from my cheek and smiled. I will never forget that place. And I'll return whenever I can...I promised them that and the least I could do is keep that.
I sat up and looked around. The sun was further up in the sky. I smiled and stood, picking up my shoes and socks, and headed back to the door. I took one last look behind me at the sun rising, and smiled.
"I promise I will return..." Was the last murmer that left my lips before going back inside. "I promise..."
