Nadia, chapter 1
Sitting in the back of the room, she doodled random stick figures with arrows through their hearts. Her hair covered her eyes, and she looked up as the bell rang. She gathered her things and made her way to the hallway. When she opened her locker, a horrible stench filled her nostrils. Her eyes began to water, and she knew that it was done by them. Them, who despised her and considered her despicable. Them, who call her a fat cow, forcing her to not eat at all. Them, who make fun of her for her appearance and her shyness. Them, who get her in trouble for things that the teachers see and know that they do, but still goes along with it. This time, they had filled her locker with rotten food.
"Oh, God, what do you have in there?" She heard people say to her. She slammed her locker shut after putting away her books and made her way to the gymnasium. She sat down against the wall of the locker room and felt tears rimming around her eyes. She hated them. Despised them. Why are they so cruel? She thought. I never did anything to them.
She didn't change into her P.E. clothes. In fact, she didn't go to P.E. at all. She decided that she would skip this class and stay in the locker room the rest of the period. When she was sure that the class had gone outside to run the mile, she escaped the locker room and went to the back building. Nobody ever was in the back building. It was abandoned, and she loved it there. It was so gloomy and full of emotion. She walked quietly in her All Star Converse, making sure that they didn't squeak, which they had a tendency to. She approached the closest door, which read, 'Principal's Office' on the door. She had succeeded in unlocking the door with a lock pick that she always kept in her pocket, and opened her door.
She closed the door, made sure it was locked, and walked to the other side of the room to face the door. She slid down the wall and sat down on the floor. After a moment passed, she heard a gentle knock on the door. She had a feeling that a faculty member had followed her down here, so she remained still. When she heard an unfamiliar voice say, "You're not going to get in trouble." She could tell that the voice belonged to a male, possibly in her grade.
She stood up and slowly walked to the door. She wrapped her hand around the doorknob and turned it slowly. When she opened the door, she found him standing there. Him, the boy she has liked since the Stone Age. Him, Adam Jones. She was attracted to his eyes, his big emerald green eyes, and his hair. Oh, yes, his hair. His half blue/half black hair. It was swept to the side and she loved it. She bit her lip and Adam smiled at her. "What are you doing over here?" He asked. She shrugged. "I-I guess I felt like skipping class," she replied. Adam nodded. "Can I skip with you?" He asked. She nodded. "Yes, you can," she replied. She moved out of the way, and Adam came into the room. She closed the door and locked it. Adam sat down in one of the old high chairs and looked at her. "So, I kind of followed you over here. I saw you walking down the hallway and I wanted to know where you were going." She raised her eyebrow. "Oh...why?" She asked.
Adam shrugged. "I...I don't know. You looked lonely." She bit her lip again and took her eyes off of him. "Nadia, I know you like me," he blurted out. She, Nadia, looked at him. His face was full of emotion, full of confusion and happiness, sadness and anger. Even continents. Nadia shoved her hands into her jean pockets and crossed her ankles. "Are you going to say anything else?" Nadia said quietly. Adam looked straight at her. She felt so naked; he was looking straight into her eyes. He shrugged. "I-I don't know what to say, Nadia." She sighed.
Nadia pushed her white and black hair out of her face, and blinked her large blue eyes before sighing. "So, Nadia, um...well, school's over now, so do you want to go to Starbucks with me?" Adam asked. Nadia looked at him, and smiled weakly. "Yeah. That'd be nice," she said.

Nadia turned the straw in circles as they walked down the street to the park. "Thanks for this, Adam," she said quietly. "No problem," he said, wiping off the sweat of his drink onto a napkin. "So, I've been watching those kids, and what they do to you. I think that's horrible," he said. Nadia looked up at him; he was a good four inches taller than she was. "Oh, yeah," she replied. She took a sip of her green tea latté and they sat down on a park bench. "You can hang out with my friends and me if you want to," Adam said. Nadia smiled at herself. "Thank you," she said softly. Adam nodded and said, "What the hell, do you want to go out with me?" Nadia was taken aback by his question, and stared at him for a moment.
"Yeah, I do," Nadia said in almost a whisper. Adam placed his hand on top of hers and said, "Well, then, I'll be your boyfriend." Nadia smiled.
