Asleep, chapter 2

"Can you tell me what this means?" Mike asked him, pointing at one sentence on the sheet of paper in front of them.
"In quel campeggio c´era un caos che non si può descrivere." Billie Joe read.

The only thing he could feel in his head was emptyness. He couldn´t even feel the words he read or heard swim through it only to leave it again.
There was nothing.

"Billie?"

Mike thumbed Billie Joe in his side.
"Huh?"

Billie raised his head like he had been sleeping the whole time.

"What does this mean?"

Billie Joe shrugged. He had no idea what this meant.
Actually he was asking himself how Mike had been able to convince him to do the Italian course.

He watched how Mike tried to translate the sentence quietly, his lips forming the words in silence.
He was wrinkling his brow in deliberation and chewing on the butt of his pencil.

"I don´t get it." he murmered, but still tried to.

Billie Joe felt a sharp pain in his temples and bit his lower lip to overact it.
He stared at the piece of paper in front of him and closed his eyes for a second.
But when he opened them again white tiny little stars were blinking in front of them.
He breathed in and closed his eyes again.

Had he really just seen tiny stars?

A little worried he dared to look.
The little stars were still there, lovely blinking, but slowely fading and finally disappearing into nowhere.

The pain in his temples began to ease off.

"Billie!" he heard Mike´s slightly annoyed voice.

"Huh?"

"Now, concentrate on this! I´m not going to do that alone again!"

Billie Joe nodded absently, but riveting his eyes on the sentences, trying to get them into his dull head, while Mike still tried to figure the first one out.

"You know what? We´ll do the next one!" he said finally, giving up on it.
