Asleep, chapter 37
Billie tried not to pull a face when he heard it.
He really tried not to let his feelings show in any way.
So he decided to put on a smile,
as happy as he managed to do it,
and grinned into her face.
"That's great! Since when are you together?"
The thoughts went rushing through his head.
He had never seen them together before.
Never.
Not even in the smoking place.
Did he even smoke?
Someone said so.
Billie's hands clung onto his Walkman as if technology could save him now.
But there was no escape.
He stood there,
face to face with the girl he wanted so bad,
and she told him she had a boyfriend now.
And what a boyfriend!
An unknown little geek,
that got into heavy metal just at the beginning of the new year,
trying to meet new people through this,
but didn't live it at all.
He didn't live the music.
That's what disturbed Billie the most about him.
He couldn't understand how people couldn't live their music.
"Oh.... we've been flirting since months, but we're together since yesterday."
That smile.
Billie was about to throw up.
Still he grinned at her,
wishing her the best and telling her he was happy for them.
Happy, what the fuck.
Of all things he was happy the least of all.
Still the smile on her face and the way she looked at him made him sink.
Sink down to the floor mentally until she left him to rot on his own.
He knew the game too well now.
But it would be the same again.
It would always be.
All she had to do was to smile and ask him to talk with her,
and he would be by her side,
soaking up every bit of her he could possibly get.
It wasn't even love he felt anymore.
But still she had a power over him he couldn't identify.
It drove him crazy all the same.
"Billie?"
He turned around to where the voice had come from.
"Billie?"
It was her voice.
But from the other side.
And the where he looked,
there was nothing.
He really tried not to let his feelings show in any way.
