At the Zoo..., chapter 13

Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre' were scared shitless. Dennis had a nasty grin of satisfaction on his face. Tre' Cool barely resisted the urge to punch him. Instead, he muttered," I'm gonna jack up your grill if you don't turn around." Dennis got a nervous look in his eyes for a second, but kept his cool and turned around.
They walked the distance of the zoo before they reached the officer's office.
"You three," she said as she pointed to Green Day," wait out here." She took Dennis in to a slightly smaller room.
"What now?" Mike inquired quietly. "They know about Hugo."
Tre' heaved a big sigh.
"Who would believe a story like that, anyway?" Billie asked hopefully. "He doesn't even know all the details. We don't even know all the details yet."
A faint smile appeared on Mike's face, but vanished as quickly as it had come.
After what felt like an eternity of silence, Dennis stepped out of the other room. The lady called them in. Their hands were all covered in sweat. They were shaking.
"Sit, please." she beckoned. They did so reluctantly.
She looked at them for a moment, then did the last thing she would have been expected to do. She burst out laughing! They looked at each other, more or less worried. The lamp light hit a badge a little bit below her shoulder. "Officer Shennera..." Tre' Cool murmered.
He jerked back up, remembering he was confused as to why the officer was cracking up.
"I'm sorry!" she gasped, between laughs." It's just that... That man just gave me the most ludocris story!"
They went along with the whole deal, saying that the story about them breaking the talking elephant out was a load of bull. She said they were free to go, but pretended to scold them on the way out.
"That went smoothly." Mike said. "Billie was so worried." Billie Joe gave Mike the Don't-be-Stupid look. They all laughed.
"She was telling us a lie." Tre' said. "Did you see her eyes? She knows the truth."
Billie and Mike looked at each other, mixed feelings curdling their stomachs...
