Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, chapter 1
The three of them walked along the winding dirt track uneasily. The hairs on the back of their necks prickled. "Guys why couldn't we have taken the car? I don't like this," the tallest one said trying to hide the scared tone in his voice.
"Because, this is a short cut, and we haven't got the car and no cash for taxis so we walk. It's only a little further. You're not afraid of the dark are you Mike?"
"No," Mike responded stubbornly, "but come on, it's not just me is it?"
"No, it's not, there's something not right guys... " the third person said. Suddenly a hand went over two of their mouths and they dropped to the floor with a thud. "Guys?" the man that had been talking last turned around and crouched down beside them. That was all he remembered before a hand was placed over his mouth, and his eyes rolled back in his head.
The glaring lights of a land rover discovery turned off and a person got out of the car. She took off her black balaclava to reveal green eyes and shoulder length red hair. She grinned and dragged the three bodies out of the under growth where she had hidden them while she went to get the car. She fastened their wrists and ankles together with duct tape and finally slapped a piece of the tape over their mouths to stop them from making noise if they came round.
Sarah Aspen pulled up outside of the house she shared with her sister Jane. They were twins. Identical twins. No one could ever tell them apart. Their mother had trouble and when they were younger, she started putting a stamp on their hands with their names on it. Of course when they finally found out where the stamp was hidden all hell broke out.
Sarah stopped her reminiscing and opened the boot of the car. She didn't feel the slightest bit guilty, she'd hold them to ransom, the ransom would be paid, and she'd get to go to University back home. She'd be as smart as her sister. As successful as her. Her mother would be proud of her again.
You might ask, why this band? Why Green Day? Well the answer was simple, they were the hottest thing in the world right now, and everyone would demand that the ransom be paid. The bonus was that it was Jane's favourite band. Sarah wasn't normally a spiteful person but she was feeling rather bitter towards Jane. Her sister was nice, one of the nicest people she'd ever known, but she'd just got promotion, again. Their mother was 'so proud of her' again. It was always her. She'd enjoy seeing Jane upset for a few days, possibly weeks while she wondered about how safe her favourite band was. And all the time they'd be in the basement. Just a few feet below her.
She looked down at the three men who were starting to come to. They were groggy, but they could walk. "Come on, up." She grabbed their hands and heaved them up. She led them inside and down to the basement where she sat them on chairs and replaced the duct tape around their arms and legs with rope - not so easy to break. She took the tape off their faces and tied a gag around their mouths. She sat around waiting for them to wake up properly and when they did she smiled. "Ever been held for ransom boys?" she asked smiling slightly as their faces turned pale and their eyes grew wide. She climbed the steps up to ground level and waved before she clicked the light off. "Goodnight," and the door shut, leaving them scared in the darkness.
