Twist of Fate, chapter 2

Alexis bounded off the plane and ran to see her friend. Tabitha was standing waiting for her, looking like a diamond as usual.

"Tabitha," Alexis squealed. "How are you?" Alexis leaped into Tabitha's arms and started to jump up and down.

"Alexis," Tabitha said. "It's been so long since I've seen you. I thought you died back in South Dakota."

Alexis laughed. "Shut up, I knew I was getting out. It just took a while." Tabitha always made Alexis laugh. Alexis liked people like that. She would always make a point to surround herself with people who were outgoing and funny because that is exactly how she wanted to be.

Alexis and Tabitha went to pick up her bags, laughing and talking the whole way. "So," Tabitha began. "How is Josh?"

"I wouldn't know," Alexis answered. "We broke up." Josh was Alexis's old boyfriend. They had been off and on since college. He had even proposed a couple of times but Alexis had always declined. She didn't know why, maybe she wasn't ready to get married, or maybe she didn't want to marry Josh. But now it didn't matter, they were over for good.

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"No, don't be. It was coming for a long time," Alexis assured her. "I just want to have a good time now."

"Well then let's get to partying," Tabitha said with a laugh. Alexis picked up her bag and headed out to Tabitha's car. "Anything exciting happened back home I should know about?" Tabitha asked while they were in the car.

"No same old, same old," Alexis answered.

"How was your flight?" Tabitha asked keeping the conversation going.

"It was good," Alexis said laughing a little to herself about the mustache man. Then the face of that guy she had met crept in too, and she smiled.

"What," Tabitha said looking at her. "Why are you so happy?"

"Oh nothing," Alexis answered wiping the smile away to avoid confrontation.

"C'mon Lex," Tabitha persisted, "I know something happened."

"Well," Alexis started. "OK," she said turning to her friend to tell her the story. "I saw this funny guy on the plane and I was laughing to myself and I ran into this really hot guy."

"Wow," Tabitha said. "What was his name?"

"Well, it didn't get that far," Alexis admitted. "He was very captivating though. I should just forget about it. I mean who's to say I will meet him again." Even as Alexis said this she couldn't forget. There was something about his eyes, his voice. Alexis didn't believe in love at first sight. It was too cheesy, too easy, so why was she feeling this way?

"Lex... Lex," Tabitha said.

"Yeah," Alexis said coming out of her thought.

"We're here," Tabitha said gesturing towards her house.

"Wow," Alexis gasped. She climbed out of the car and stared up and the house. It was beautiful from where she was standing. Finally, she had freedom and a new life. The one she's always dreamed of.
