Birmingham - NIA, January 22nd, 2005
It was the night we were all waiting for! Green Day at Birmingham NIA, the show that kicks off the U.K. Tour.
Starting off the night was New Found Glory with around 5 or so songs, which were awesome. They really got the crowd going for Green Day (although Green Day don't need much help in doing that) and worked well on stage.
After a while of waiting for the main stars to appear on stage. Out came Green Day with American Idiot. As Billie Joe hit the first few notes to the song all the crowd went wild! He later followed with more songs from American Idiot and then played some great classics from their earlier years.
I have a set list which they played at the concert:
01. American Idiot
02. Jesus of Suburbia
03. Holiday
04. Are We The Waiting
05. St. Jimmy
06. Longview
07. Hitchin' A Ride
08. Brain Stew
09. Jaded
10. Knowledge
11. Basket Case
12. She
13. King For A Day
14. Shout
15. Wake Me Up When September Ends
16. Minority
17. Boulevard of Broken Dreams
18. When I Come Around
On one of the songs (which I cannot remember exactly which one) Billie Joe went into the crowd and carried on singing. All the security men were trying to drag him out and when Billie Joe finally emerge, his ass was hanging out his trousers.
During 'Knowledge' as always, Billie Joe starts a band onstage with people from the audience. They played really well and the guitartist got to keep the guitar and the drummer was told to make a stage dive back into the moshpit.
Towards the end of the show, on they came Billie Joe, Mike and Tré with a truely classic and powerful song 'We Are The Champions.'
As they played it was a really sentimental moment. Behind them was the words of the songs, appearing as Billie Joe sang them. All the crowd of fans sang along with him and was a highlight of the spectacular night! When the song was coming to an end and the last chorus was playing, of went a large expolsion of ticket tape.
All the lights went after the song and there was only a light to be seen shining on Billie Joe. He played 'Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)' perfectly through. That ended the great night. Everyone who I saw went home with a smile. :)
This was the first Green Day concert I had ever been to and is deffinatley a night I wont forget!
Thank you Green Day!
