London - Hammersmith Apollo, February 6th, 2005
OK. Where do I start? Do I just go ahead and tell you it was so amazing that I was bouncing around all day today? Or do I tell you it was so amazing that I didn't sleep after I got in.
So we got there, got searched (stupid bottle taking wishing dehydration on fans bastards!) Anyway we watched New Found Glory and, well, I'll be blunt, they were shit. Mr Pink Bunny came out and started chugging beers and humping roadies and doing the YMCA, so that was very amusing. And then Green Day came on.
They played American Idiot and everyone was getting really wound up and stuff. After that Billie Joe said that because it was the last gig in London (yay!!!) that they'd play the WHOLE of the new album so now my dad has claw marks in his arms from where I kept grabbing his arm. Billie Joe was like 'We don't do this very often but it's the last gig in London so we're gonna play American Idiot from the front of the album, to the back of the album.' So they played the album and it was amazing. It sounded better than on the CD, more raw, and fresher. Before they did Homecoming they were like yeah so thanks for coming out, this is our finale, and I was like Nooooo! Because they hadn't played any classics yet. They did Whatsername and then ran off the stage.
And then they came back and started playing Longview!! So yeah, amazing. They played 2000 Light Years Away 'for all you true Green Day fans' and then they played.. Shout and Billie Joe and Mike were laying on the floor for part of it. They played Basket Case, King for a Day, Minority, We are the Champions and Time Of Your Life.
It was such an amazing night and when Billie Joe played Time Of Your Life it was indesribable. You can watch the videos and stuff but to have him doing it 20 yards in front of you, that's amazing. It felt really weird, like no matter what happened, everything would turn out right, it sounds stupid but whatever. At the end I saw Mike clapping at the side and he waved, so I waved too. lol. But it is amazing how many people those guys can affect. While we were queing outside they were giving away free lighters with a Green Day sticker on them, everyone who got one was waving it in the air during Time of Your Life.
And just when we thought it was all over, me and my friend came out the toilets at the station and my Dad said, there's a girl with one of Tre's drumsticks there. So we went crazy over that. It had Tre Cool written on it in green and you can see the marks from where he'd used it so we got a picture done with us holding it.
The set list was:
American Idiot
Jesus of Suburbia
Holiday
Blvd of Broken Dreams
Are We The Waiting (Another lighter moment)
St Jimmy
Give Me Novacaine
She's a Rebel
Extraordinary girl
Letterbomb
Wake Me Up When September Ends
Homecoming
Whatsername
Longview
2000 light years away
Shout
Basket Case
King for a Day
Minority
We are the Champions
Time of your life.
I'm pretty sure that was the order but it doesn't matter, it was a one off show. lol.
But seriously.. the greatest night of my life. Sure I have a huge bruise on my knee, sure my ears are ringing and my mind is not working properly, sure, my vocal cords are ripped to shreds. It doesn't matter though. It was worth it.
Awesome...
