London, England at Wembley Arena, July 16th, 2002

OK, so lets state the obvious here - I was going to see Green Day. they would be fantastic. Obvious, right?? How wrong I was! They were better than fantastic! (bear in mind my opinion is a little biased).

Unfortunately, owing to the stoopid tube strike, we were late gettin to the stadium, and so missed Green Day coming on stage *cries like a baby*. But the first song was Maria, which I don't particularly like anyway, so it was all good.

Billie Joe is possibly the greatest crowd-pleaser ever, and managed to whip 15,000 fans into a frenzy by spankin' hisself.. yummy! They did their usual trick where they get three kids onstage to play a song, then gave them the guitars to keep (lucky sods!), which was all good. Tre set fire to his drumkit, Billie Joe played about 10 minutes feedback, and they went on 1/2 an hour longer than they were supposed to. They played every single one of the best songs, and in between times, Billie Joe kept us entertained with questions such as "Who wants to fuck me?" (to which the answer is, everybody). Oh, and there was a shower of glitter and confetti at the end (how... rock'n'roll....)

I have to say, Green Day may be great on CD, but you ain't seen nothin' till you've seen 'em live. The CD's just cant live up to it, and I'm desperate to see them play again. If you've never seen them, take a hint and go as soon as you can!! The memory still leaves me sweaty-palmed and breathless to this day..
