Omaha, NE - Qwest Arena, May 14th, 2005
I live in South Dakota so the morning of the concert my sisters and I left and 12:00 for a 4 hour drive to Omaha. we arrived there at 4ish and got in a line that already seemed long. We waited in line for 2 hours in what seemed like 100 degree weather.
They opened the doors at 6:00 and we filed in. As soon as we got in I hurried to the front and the crowd managers made us sit down. It was about 7:15 when the lights dimmed and My Chemical Romance took the stage. I jumped up and pushed myself to the front. I was in the front row just a few feet left of the catwalk. My Chemical Romance put on a great show. They started with Helena and followed with Cemetery Drive, Ghost of you, you know what they do to guys like us in prison, Give 'em hell kid, and they finished with i'm not okay. During a lot of the performance Frankie was spitting. There was a couple of times when it hit my face. The crowd managers were making a big fuss about this and complaining about getting spit on but i didnt care. Gerad always was doing these girly moves which were really funny.
I was happy when their set was over though because that meant Green Day was coming on. They took a while changing the set. Then the drunken bunny came on and danced to YMCA. He went down the catwalk and jumped around. He finally left and the light dimmed again.
It was about 8:15 when Green Day took the stage. They went right into American Idiot. Everyone went crazy. After the song Billie Joe stood there for a long time and just listened to us cheer then he blew kisses to us while saying "I love you, I love you." They played Jesus of Suburbia and Holiday next. Before Holiday Billie Joe shouted out "This song isnt anti-america its anti-war!" They played more songs off American Idiot such as Are We the Waiting and St. Jimmy. During St. Jimmy Billie Joe swung him mic around a lot and even dropped it a few times which made a huge boom. There was also fire that shot out a lot which was very hot since I was in the front.
During Hitchin' A Ride Billie Joe went on the catwalk and started to masturbate finishing with yelling "Somebody fuck me!". They played many songs from Dookie which during a boy got up on stage and sprayed water at us through a water gun. They of course did Knowledge where three people came up and got to play. When the drummer was finished he jumped off the drum set and fell which made Billie Joe, Mike, Tre, and the rest of us laugh. Billie Joe asked the guitarist where he was from and he screamed IOWA. Everyone was silent until he screamed OMAHA. Then at the end after giving him a guitar Billie Joe said "get your Iowa ass off my stage."
During King For A Day Billie Joe put on his hat and cape and Tre put on his pink hat. Then Billie Joe came right in front of me and mooned us all. That was the best part of the night.
They finished the set with Minority which was always upbeat. Then they left the stage. The screen kept flashing Green Day, Green Day. So we all chanted and they came back on the play Maria. They finished with Billie Joe on the catwalk singing Good Riddance.
It was the best concert ever, and even though I was squished and dieing of dehydration, I really had the time of my life. It ended at around 10:15 so it was a good 2 hour show.
I recommend everyone to go see a Green Day show because it is worth it. Here is the set list the best I can remember.
