Milton Keynes National Bowl - England, June 18th, 2005

So, a year ago if you would've told me that Green Day were gonna be the biggest band on earth by next June and that, if I loved them more I'd be almost obsessively worshipping them, I would have given you a very strange look! But no, you would have been right, which was why I found myself at Milton Keynes Superbowl last Sunday, feverishy anticipating, what I already knew was gonna be an explosive, kick ass show.
Support acts Hard Fi, my new hobby Taking Back Sunday and Jimmy Eat World, were as amazing as I thought they would be, and I was made a fan of T.B.S right then.
At about nine o clock, the famous/wicked cool/infamous pink bunny came on stage to YMCA, and danced around like a loon, which was a great way to start the proceedings! Billie Joe, Mike and Tre came on, as usual, to the Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones to screams and cheers (to which i contributed greatly!) They then launched straight into the stunning American Idiot, a superb live version. All through the show, Billie is the idyllic, punk rock front man, what with flashing his bum and love of profanities (don't we all!?) By the time Green Day constructed their band for Knowledge, the crowd, couldn't be more hyped up. The 14 year old guitarist Ollie Blundell (Billie: "How old are you? Fourteen? How long you been playin'? Five years? You ever got laid? Well you will tonight get your ass up here!"), is given a huge cheer when he plays the chords correctly, and when Billie tells him he can keep the guitar and they hug, the look on his face tells you he'll never forget this night. Billie then says; "Now keep the guitar and get the fuck off my stage" to which everyone bursts out laughing, then the real Green Day, whack into gear with Basket Case which is a popular decision.
By the end time Wake Me Up September Ends is played, and Billie almost emotionally breaks down, you see how much all this means to him and how much he needed that song. He still gets through it superbly though and everyone screams extra loud for him then.

This was my first concert and I've heard a lot about Green DAY'S LIVE SETS BEING AWESOME, and I can safely say I disagree. They are 110 percent awesome, incredible entertaining and touching. And even though I didn't get home until 3 am, it was so worth it and I'm going to another Green Day gig asap! Overall an amazing show, I love them if possible, even more, and they so deserve what they are getting now: Recognition.
10/10
