Milton Keynes National Bowl - England, June 18th, 2005
We started with Hard-Fi, a british band selected by Green Day to perform first (and little did we know that the first song they played for us 'hard to beat' would be released less than a month later)! Second up, Taking Back Sunday - the tunes they played were perhaps already known by a few members of the audience, and they did indeed rock! Next was Jimmy eat world, and not everyone really appriciated them as they were of course in anticipation of the headline act!
The concert was kick-ass. It really made me appriciate Green Day for the entertainers they are. And, man, they did not STOP entertaining! They rocked beyond rock. It wasn't just action, it was music, it wasn't just music, it was soul. It really reached out and grabbed everyone of the lucky audience. Yes, even the grandad smoking on his pipe! Green Day were gods! Tre's little additions were hilarious, Mike rocked, and what can be said for Billie Joe?
Billie Joe Armstrong brought that stage to life, he brought Milton Keynes national bowl to life. And he brought all of the fans that had been waiting their lives for this moment to come to life. Billie Joe wanted to included his audience in the set as much as possible, gave away his guitar to a fourteen year old billie joe spin-off. He had the red tie, black shirt... the guitar! He let a sixteen year old bassist crowd-surf, even though their was a massive notice stating that crowd-surfurs
They played most songs from the 'American Idiot' album, including the best ever version of 'Jesus of Suburbia' and a beautiful 'Wake me up when September ends' - Billie Joe cried at the end due to the song meaning, and everyone had their lighters and mobile phone's waving around in the air. Billie Joe said goodbye to us with 'Good Riddance (time of your life)' - and we truly did all have the time of our lives. An amazing fireworks display took place as we all said a final goodbye to Green Day, and a concert that shall surely be written down in rock and roll history...?
