Balado Near Kinross, Scotland at T In The Park, July 13th, 2002
T in the park festival Kinross, Scotland
It was about half past two in the afternoon when my friends and I headed over to the main stage at the T in the park. We caught the last few songs by The Hives who were playing on the stage before Green Day. After The Hives set had finished, we ran down to the entrance to the pit of the main stage to get up real close. We were successful on that front; we managed to get right near the front. The only downfall after that was there was a whole hours wait for the trio to come on. It was well worth The wait, there was folk crowd surfing to the excitement of the band's appearance, which was good enough for most folk. After all the waiting, out of nowhere stormed onto the stage and started playing the opening track to their album "International Superhits", Maria. It was an electrifying atmosphere and everyone in the pit were jumping up and down like mad. They played all their best songs (set list at the bottom) including a couple of covers like "Shout" and "Knowledge". Billie Joe entertained the scottish fans by bringing out his good old super soaker and waving the two scottish flags about. They did their usual routine of bringing up musicians from the crowd to play a song. They chose three ever so lucky teenagers (two boys and a girl) and they played a part of "Knowledge" which they played pretty well.
As like any good old punk band's live performance, there was sing alongs, chants, fireworks, mosh-pitting and crowd surfing that I was apart of all of them. These guys are the best entertainers in the world and they definitely should be top of the best live acts in the "Rolling Stone" magazine and any other best live acts chart in the world. It was like Green Day made the crowd breath in from the second they came onto the stage and then as if they made you breath out from the second they obliged to leave the stage. It was a once in a lifetime feeling seeing this band live.
