I've been a Green Day fan for almost fifteen years. I remember buying Kerplunk! the month it came out. I had to deal with varoious problems in my life and the songs on the first Green Day albums helped me out. However, I'm very disappointed with the direction Green Day has turned in the last couple of years.
I saw Green Day open for the mighty Bad Religion in '93. After the concert in Fort Worth I have a hard time believing they were the same band. The whole show was filled with lights, special effects, and pyrotechnics. I thought I was at a KISS show. They have become what they hated, ROCK STARS! The set list was terrible as well. They did NOT play When I Come Around, 2000 Light Years, Welcome to Paradise, Geek Stink Breath, Nice Guys Finish Last, Platypus, One of My Lies, and numerous other songs that are staples of their live acts. Instead the opted to go with covers of "Shout" and "We are the Champions." They also dragged out half of their songs with Heys and Hos and crap. I thought I was at a football game and Billie Joe was the head cheerleader.
They opened with an 8 minute version of American Idiot. THey only played about 7 songs from their previous albums and nothing off of Kerplunk and 1,039 smooth. All in all it was the worst concert I've ever been to. I want my 90 bucks back for the two tickets I bought. They played to the radio crowd and not their die hard fans. I hope Green Day enjoys being officially ostracized from the punk rock scene. If you want some real punk music go buy a Black Flag, Rise Against, or Pennywise album.
I am disappointed that Green Day just lost one of their biggest fans. Send them a message and don't buy tickets to this tour. GO SEE THE BAD RELIGION/RISE AGAINST TOUR INSTEAD.
