Montreal, QUE - Bell Centre, November 3rd, 2004
The show was amazing, it had been my first concert ever and I was lucky enough to be treated to having a spot right by where the stage jutted out, though later I moved to the side, but still 2nd or 3rd row from the barrier. I got there at 4 pm, and waited outside for 2 hours until they opened the doors freezing my ass off, but it was so worth it. Me and my friend had 2 cameras, so the girl who checked us wasn't expecting us to have 2, and only threw one away that she found, so we have a full camera of pictures that will be posted on the message board once I get them developped and scanned.
First up was Sugarcult, they played their set, I have no idea what the songs were, though I know 'What You Say', 'Crying', 'Memory, and 'Bouncing Off The Walls' were in there somewhere. Their fans were VICIOUS, it was so weird. Most of their set was spent pushing back the stupid 12 year olds all the while, elbowing them in their gut. The band weren't as bad as I thought, though they still weren't all that good.
New Found Glory came on, and I was actually pleased with their performance. I was expecting me to hate it since I despise NFG, but I quite enjoyed myself. The only song I knew was 'All Downhill From Here.' Though the singer's voice was still quite annoying, I thought it was better than Sugarcult.
Then at around 8:30, a Pink Bunny came on stage with a beer and started doing the YMCA, he afterwards chugged the entire bottle and staggered off stage. Then Green Day came on and it was sooooo great. The setlist was:
1. American Idiot
2. Jesus Of Surburbia
3. Holiday
4. Are We The Waiting
5. St. Jimmy
6. Longview
7. Hitchin' A Ride
8. Brain Stew
9. Jaded
10. Knowledge (Operation Ivy Cover)
11. Basket Case
12. She
13. King For A Day
14. Shout (Lulu Cover)
15. Wake Me Up When September Ends
16. Homecoming
Encore:
17. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
18. Minority
19. We Are The Champions (Queen Cover)
20. Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)
American Idiot was amazing, most likely because it was the first and I had to get over the fact that Green Day, the one band I worship, were standing only a few meters away. I was pleased at Billie Joe's little faces and moves, it was amusing. At one point, he just started laughing into the microphone for like 10 minutes. He groped himself during Hitchin' A Ride, just liked every other concert, I was expecting it, unlike everyone else. I spat on the girls who were like "ME!" when Billie Joe cried out "Somebody fuck me!." During Holiday, the crowd was sent into a chant of "Fuck George Bush" and it was quite fun. We also had to chant "1,2,1,2,3,4" for a while in between Brain Stew and Jaded where Billie Joe was like "I'm gonna get 'ya! Here I come! All I need is a big 1,2,1,2,3,4!" During Knowledge, he did his thing, invited people on stage yadda-yadda-wing-wong. King For A Day was great, I remember it the most vividly. Billie Joe put on a crown and cape and was just funny. I got mooned, well, my direction, though I had no more pictures in my camera by that time. He pulled out a super-soaker and sprayed the crowd, including me. Numerous times, he sent the crowd into a "Heeeeeeyyyyy ho" and it got to where he stayed at 'Hey' for like 5 minutes it was amazing, the crowd couldn't repeat after him and he jsut stood there and started to pout. Confetti was shot twice, and i held out my sweater and saved a handful, during Rock And Roll Girlfriend and Minority. The rest of the concert, was slower and more intimate. I liked Good Riddance, it was just Billie Joe, with the spotlight, amongst many lighters, and it was a perfect closure.
If you're doubting going to a show this tour, DO IT! You'll be missing out on so much! I'll be definately going to another GD show, they're excellent live.
10/10 because I liked it THAT much.
