Even if you were in fact to deduce such a thing perfectly and accurately, no conviction could possibly be made with no evidence and no confession, which you certainly would not get.

No. For all that I were to know, there would be a replacement to you as soon as I kill you, and once I have made contact with you, if you were to suddenly die that would look suspicious onto me, so first were I to kill you, I must ensure that you have made sufficient contact with each suspect, to ease the finger of guilt upon me.
