Existentialism
"Existentialism is a sexy word mostly used by people who can't understand what it really means." - My Honors English teacher in class today.
So, I guess this Blog is more of an eye-opener. I looked up on wikipedia all of the different philosophies about life/God and all that, because I always thought I belonged to a really strange minority, and so I found EXISTENTIALISM. Existentialism means believing that we are not born with a destiny that is pre-determined by some force or "god." Rather, we create our own destiny by the choices we make.
This is my philosophy about life. We all have opportunities to change how our lives are. Even in the most bleak times, when it seems like no else can go wrong, I always rely on this belief of mine to remind me of what I'm intending to do with my life. I can't stand it when people throw their lives away because of family problems or something of that sort. Yes, things ARE awful and they're very difficult to deal with on top of everything. But we're not destined to be miserable for the rest of our lives unless we allow ourselves to be miserable. We can change things. I know things in my life haven't been exactly peachy, but I compensate for it by looking forward to my future, because I know I really want to do something with my life and I can't let my family problems burden me. In fact, I believe they've strengthened me.
I know I've talked about that before in Blogs, but I've never really explained it. I've said before that all of our toughest times strengthen us if we can deal with them in the right way and have the right attitude. This is from experience. How can we grow in our values and aspirations, if they aren't tested? It's difficult to stay on task with all of the shit that goes on in our lives, but we haven't lost the battle yet. We will only lose the battle if we give up. The experiences in our lives, both the good AND the bad, can amount to something if we use them to our advantage.
I know, two Blogs in a row. But my other Blog about John Bonham, it had to be said today. I was planning on writing this one for a while, too.

Hm. that's true I guess. I still don't know though. It's another one of those questions that you gotta answer for yourself.

I don't think there's a right or wrong philosophy about life. We can all believe what we want to concerning how life is, since life is personal. We all have different experiences, so naturally we're going to think differently about how things work.

Lovely blog. Sorta confusing although I understand it. I'm not really sure though... but this seems like a pretty good philosophy. It makes me wonder though because so many people have different views on life, I just wonder which ones are right. Hmm.

I don't believe people have total and complete control over their lives; that would be idealistic. But they don't control how they handle their lives. However, you and you alone choose how you react to the events that occur in your life. Like you said, things go wrong, its unavoidable and a part of life. But the light in all the gloom is what you learn from that experience so that you can go on to create your destiny. Neat blog.
