I Almost Cried
In church the other day.
I heard what I really think is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard in my life. It was so simple... but so deep and perfect.
The act of rejoicing can be found in the most unexpected places- in a hospital, where one family mourns the loss of one, another family celebrates the birth of another.
Those words just hit something in me. And they're so true. You're life means so much to you, and yet people waste it. Your life never "sucks." It only "sucks" as much as you make it.
My mother for example:
- her liver is going
- both of our cars are crapped up
- she's having surgery on one of her arms on Dec. 27th. Once she recovers, she's having the same surgery on the other
- she has to have 2 root canals
What kills me is I heard her on the phone saying, "My life sucks."
I wanted to say, "I'm sorry a husband for 30 years and 3 children wasn't enough for you. And I'm sorry you have a house, 3 meals a day, and you just got offered a job."
Yah, it is a pretty crappy Christmas present, I'll admit. But I don't feel sorry for her. I'm sick of people saying "my life sucks." It's not true. It means your level of optimism sucks.
I don't get negativity. It reminds me of drugs. They're completely pointless. But they have an upside
Drugs: an escape
Negativity: an option to feel sorry for yourself
To me, both of them are outweighed by the opposite. Why not optimism? Negativity hurts you more than it helps you, right? I don't care what's wrong with your life. I don't care what's wrong with mine. My life is amazing. I wake up every day and breath clean air. My house covers me from the rain, keeps me warm or cool occasionally. I eat 3 meals a day. I don't care about the bad. When I write that down, when I look at that, I realize that those things are a necessity. Without those, I wouldn't be alive. So doesn't that mean, it's better than the bad already?
There's always something to appriciate, so don't give up. The second you give up, is really the true moment that your life sucks.

Amazing blog.
You are completely right. Life is what you make of it & even I'll admit that I do take it for granted sometimes. I can breathe, I'm alive, I have great friends & family and pretty much everything I could really ask for that I'll ever need. When you stop and look around at everything you feel really fortunate. Thank you for reminding me.. You have no idea how much I needed to hear something like this. <3
